  • The very first joke (that isn't part of the lyrics to a song) of the musical is Paul failing to show up when it's his cue, after 3 minutes and 20 seconds of song hyping him up. The entire cast is left standing awkwardly around, with some even whispering about where he is. Eventually, Mr. Davidson just breaks the silence by singing in a comically high-pitched voice.
    • The same song also features these incredible lyrics:
      But for some damn reason
      He won't join our singing season
      What an ass!
      What a bitch!
      What a cuuuuuuuuck!
    • And this:
      And not singing and dancing with us all!
      Should we kill him?
      Should we kill him?
  • "What Do You Want, Paul?" is one big, long funny moment. Funniest of all is Mr Davidson's shameless mugging and scenery-chewing. And beyond that, there's the sheer concept — in a grotesque perversion of an "I Want" Song meant to get Paul to sing his "I Want" Song (the Hive Mind apparently has sufficient Medium Awareness to realize Paul is the main character), Davidson reveals what he wants... and it's for his wife to choke him while he jerks off. Paul reacts with increasing horror.

  • Also hilarious, in the above number, is the moment where Davidson calls his wife, only to forget what he wants, and goes right back to singing cheerfully.
  • Paul returns to the coffee shop in a state of desperation after "What Do You Want, Paul?", freaked out by everyone's musical-style singing.
    Paul: Hello?! HELLO?! Please, GOD, I just want a black coffee!
    (Piano starts up as Emma enters.)
    Emma: (singing) Blaaack coffee, I'm your coffee gal—
  • Emma's completely unenthusiastic expression during the "Cup of Roasted Coffee" section.
  • When Paul and Emma escape from the coffee shop, they make a detour through the audience, with Paul claiming to know of an alley near where he used to live and Emma wondering who planted a load of shrubs there.
  • "Show Me Your Hands", in which Charlotte's husband Sam and two fellow policemen show up and sing an entire number about being cops. Jeff Blim's manic delight as Sam must be seen to be believed.
    • Also, Robert Manion imitating a police siren while breakdancing. Again, it has to be seen to be believed.
  • Charlotte thinks that the world is ending and suggests they go to a church. Ted shoots her down because they're all different denominations and he (a Presbyterian) refuses to "die in your dirty-ass Methodist church."
  • The "Smoke Club", which seems to essentially consist of Joey Richter and Lauren Lopez pretending to smoke about three different cigarettes at a time.
  • The group goes to Emma's friend, Professor Hidgen's home to seek refuge:
    Hidgens: Who is it?
  • This exchange:
    Bill: One more crack at me and I am gonna... do something to you!
    Ted: Oh yeah? Bill, what are you gonna do?
    Bill: I'm gonna... kick your... head!
    • The kicker is Ted's reaction to it.
    Ted: ALRIGHT THEN, LET'S SEE IT! Huh? KICK MY HEAD. C'mon Karate Champ. I wanna see you kick above your waist, alright? Show me that roundhouse. Show me that sweeping crane kick that your Kung Fu Master taught you!
    Paul: Okay, you two, calm down. Ted, Bill’s not gonna kick your head.
    Ted: WHY NOT? It's the most vulnerable part of the body! That's what ''Sensei Bill'' taught me!
    • This gets a Call-Back right before “Let It Out”.
    Paul: Bill!
    Assimilated!Ted: Watch out, Paul! He might kick your head.
    • There's a hilarious fan theory that Ted managed to mentally fight the alien taking over his brain and grabbing his free will for just a few seconds... to make the "kick your head" joke.
  • Right as the Infected Charlotte and Sam are about to assimilate Ted, Professor Hidgens shoots them both, killing them, prompting this exchange.
    Emma: You killed Charlotte!
    Hidgens: Wrong.
    Paul: You shot her!
    Hidgens: I shot a charlatan.
    • This is followed up with Hidgens clearly expecting some reaction to his pun, only for him to go "forget about it" as no-one thought it was funny.
  • To prove they're still human, Professor Hidgens has a few characters sing the opening to Moana. Bill winds up singing "The Circle of Life" by the end. And Paul, despite not liking musicals, knows the song the best out of the four singing.
  • In the YouTube version, Hidgens injects Emma with a sedative and goes to put the needle in his pocket; however, Robert Manion struggles to get it in and ultimately just throws it behind him and continues on.
  • The entire sequence of "Show Stoppin' Number." What starts with Professor Hidgen's speech about humanity's doom culminates in him revealing a keyboard and playing it before revealing to Ted and Emma that he's been working on a musical and asks to show them his pitch. The title number for "Workin' Boys: a New Musical" is thought to be one of, if not the funniest moment in the show. Ted and Emma's reactions to the whole thing are utterly hilarious too, with Ted getting far too into the "Workin' Boys" pitch (this is despite being tied to a chair and facing imminent doom) and Emma alternating between being horrified and totally bewildered at what is happening.
    • Workin' Boys is a Creator In-Joke which the Lang Brothers first came up with in college as an idea for the worst musical ever; when Darren Criss went to see this show, he laughed out loud at the very mention of the musical's name. The idea of seeing this show live and having the creators' very famous friend in the audience start cracking up well before the apparent joke starts is infectiously hilarious on its own.
  • Paul saves Emma and Ted, but before they run away:
    Paul: Yes!
    Ted: I'll get the piano!
  • Ted summing up his own character arc when he refuses to help Emma and Paul escape:
    Ted: I said I'd try to be a better person, that still doesn't make me a good person!
  • A meta example, but the fact that of the fourteen songs in the show, Jeff Blim has solos in about seven of them (as different characters). It's funny when you remember that Jeff Blim wrote the songs for the show.
  • In the performance that was filmed, during the "Let Him Come" number, Jeff Blim apparently got lost in thought for a moment and accidentally called Paul "Steve". If you're listening for it, you can hear that they had to edit the audio so he says "Paul's a-comin'" like he's supposed to. Real-life Surreal Humor?
