Funny / The Evil Dead (1981)

  • Ash making Linda think he is sleeping, while she is trying to see what's in a box he was holding. She catches on with the both of them having a good laugh. Doubles as a Heartwarming Moment between the two since it's her necklace.
    • Darkly revisited while he's digging a grave for Linda, and her "corpse" shuts its eyes when he looks back.
  • Ash showing a trace of his future sarcastic self while trying to listen to the recording, as the others play with cards:
Linda: Hey, Ash, I guessed the card right!
Ash: (With a startled, annoyed expression) Yeah, truly amazing, Linda.
  • Some of what Deadite!Cheryl says can be pretty funny if you've got that sense of humor.
  • Scotty tempting fate when they cross the bridge for the first time.
Scotty: Don't let the noise fool you girls, this thing is solid as a rock.
(planks start falling off the bridge)
  • Ash charges towards a Deadite and gets pushed backwards so that he slams into a bookcase, and then said bookcase collapses on top of him. Later in the film Ash charges towards a different Deadite and that one pushes him into another bookcase and that one collapses on him in the exact same way the first one did. Even in a relatively serious film, Sam Raimi's love of The Three Stooges isn't hard to see.
  • Ash is investigating the basement and sees a pipe dripping blood and bound up tightly with a makeshift rag that looks like it's under a great deal of pressure. What does he do? Sticks his face directly underneath it to investigate, and the pipe predictably bursts, covering him head to toe in blood, with him seemingly shocked by this. Even in the first movie Ash was already displaying some of his future Idiot Hero qualities.
  • Near the end, when Ash goes to the basement looking for shotgun shells, the demon toys with him by making blood come out of everywhere: a broken pipe, lights, power sockets... Then, when Ash is leaving, he steps in a pool of blood... in which floats a box of band-aids.
