Funny / The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan

Go To

  • In the flashback in which Haruhi meets Nagato, Haruhi has Nagato stand on a bench and make sure that Haruhi's writing her message to Santa correctly. After a while, Haruhi realizes that Nagato forgot her glasses, and decides to have the two switch places.
  • Chapter 3 and Episode 1, Tsuruya insists Kyon is a member of the Mikuru fan-club and that he is cheating by hanging out with Nagato and Ryoko. He denies it, only to be be distracted by how awful of a picture they took of him.
    • Tsuruya and Ryoko try to have Nagato and Mikuru compete to see if Nagato is worthy of the turkey, only to be unhappy with both of their performances and the contest instead becomes between them.
  • After Ryoko slices a daikon in mid-air, Kyon remarks that seeing her weilding a knife makes him nervous for some reason. We feel you on that one, Kyon.
  • In Chapter 10, Ryoko starts revealing embarrassing secrets about Yuki to Tsuruya, who does the same with Mikuru. Tsuruya then reveals that Mikuru has a star-shaped mole on her chest, which is something that Mikuru did not know before and is greatly embarrassed. Now, in Ryoko's case about catching Yuki checking her weight after a shower makes sense, since she's a close friend who frequently visits her, but, for Tsuruya to be the one to know about Mikuru's beauty mark is funny, yet, a little strange, since it's not really explained how she knows...Not to mention that Mikuru looks seductive in that page.
  • When Kyon needs help with math, Ryoko insists that he not go to Nagato for help, and we later see why. Nagato's smart enough to solve a math problem that's difficult even for Ryoko, who's a good student by North High's standards, but when she tries to explain how she got the solution, she ends up giving an incomprehensible explanation.
  • Haruhi announces that she got special permission to be on North High campus, getting Yuki to sign a form when she wasn't paying attention. After a couple of incidents like this, Ryoko grabs Haruhi's face.
    Ryoko(sweet voice): I see. You're just a troublemaker, aren't you?
Haruhi: Geez, you're always mad at me about something!
Ryoko: That's because you always give me a reason to be angry!
  • In the anime, Haruhi holds a blatantly unfair ping-pong tournament for the fruit milk. First, she seeds herself so that she's the only one out of the seven who doesn't have to play a match in the first round. Second, Tsuruya offers to be the judge for her second match with Haruhi, resulting in her conveniently being disqualified. Third, she apparently defeats Yuki by jumping up and forcefully striking the ball.
    • Let's not forget her convincing Koizumi to throw his match because he "injured" himself.
  • In Chapter 19, Ryoko starts worrying about Yuki and Kyon getting too close too soon (this after 18 chapters that she's been matchmaking) ... and Haruhi, of all people, becomes the voice of reason.
    • Similarly, when Ryōko starts trying to give Yuki encouraging advice about being invited to play video games at Kyon's house, her sense of reason telling her to shut up takes the appearance of Haruhi.
  • Ryoko and Kyon are chatting about the pressures of studying for exams. Ryoko tells him that while she may appear calm on the surface, she's got a lot of tension, and when it reaches a certain level, she can snap.
Ryoko: I might just stab in you in the back when you're not looking.
  • The Stinger of the anime's last episode: "Kyon, did you do your summer homework?"
  • Toward the end of the series, Ryoko talks with Haruhi about her relationship with Yuki. Ryoko mentions that there was a time when she "clung to Nagato-san constantly, no matter what," prompting Haruhi to say that's still the case. In the next panel, it's shown that Ryoko apparently hit Haruhi on the head with a stuffed animal, but Ryoko grudgingly admits that Haruhi's right.
  • When Ryoko returns from Canada at the end of the series, she has an Imagine Spot in which Kyon and Nagato have already had a baby.
