For the main page, go here: Team Four Star

After the end of Kingdom Hearts: 0.2, their fans were given the power what to do — A vote for the next TFS retrospective.

This marked the beginning of the era known as the Solid Stream.

    open/close all folders

    General
  • Lani doing an impression of Snake's famous "Hrrrgh... Metal Gear!" growl throughout each stream, especially when a signature Metal Gear game mechanic is being questioned why it even exists.
  • Ben reading the Metal Gear Nintendo Entertainment System Worlds of Power Scholastic book like an audio book prior to the Metal Gear streams on Twitch beginning and those readings being referred to as Bentime Stories.
    • Even Ben isn't immune to the hilariousness of this book; he has hold in laughter when reading a chapter in which Snake covers himself in panther urine, poses like a wild cat, and roars at a pack of guard dogs to scare them off. PURE. PANTHER. POWER. indeed.
      • In the Twin Snakes finale, you can hear Lani laughing in the background at the description of how rations heal Snake.
      • Later on, after completing the book, he refers to it as the "canon events of the game" and a work of art compared to the "Fanfic" he found to replace it, which is the real, official Metal Gear Solid novel more accurately based on the games.
  • The joke that everyone in Team Four Star is slowing being replaced by Snatchers, but they're doing such a bad job at it that even they can't keep track of who is already a Snatcher or not.
Ben: He seems to think I'm possessed by somebody, Snatchers are immune to that. I mean, hu-mans are immune to that!
  • Metal Gear Survive being such a complete joke to them that the mere suggestion that they play the beta for that game instead of the betas for Dragon Ball Fighter Z and Monster Hunter: World has the entire office laughing (even from other rooms).

TFS Plays - Prelude to Metal Gear - Snatcher
  • The Couch trying to figure out what percentage of the World's Greatest Detective they are with Grant being there.
  • When they do Gillian impressions, they end up sounding like Inspector Gadget.
  • Everyone's faces and reactions when they find out Katrina's real age from the Japanese version of the game, especially during the infamous shower scene.
  • Every time someone on the Couch sneezes, they blame it on Snow-9 pollen.
  • When Gillian and Random find a decaying corpse, the trio scream in horror. Kaiser screeches.
  • How overly happy Grant becomes after Random Hajile is revealed not to be dead after all by saving Gillian and Jamie from the incoming satellite laser cannon by giving them enough time to escape from it.
  • The reveal after the finale that Kaiser, Ben, and even Grant are actually all Snatchers without each other knowing it, and their complaining that the Snatcher equivalent of HR dropped the ball on that one.
  • After the finale and deciding to try Penguin Adventure, Ben, Kaiser, and Grant's reactions to the fact the main Penguin character in this game carries around a gun and other weapons.

    TFS Plays - Metal Gear
  • Kirran, Lani, and Grant at first being grateful they got tickets to "Motherbase" for their background when it's actually the torture area in Camp Omega from Ground Zeroes.
  • They are spotted by the very first enemy in the very first game resulting in a panicked run to safety.
  • The usual birthday song played on Team Four Star streams being interrupted halfway by Psycho Mantis.
Lani: [yelling] HAPPY BIRTHDAY IF IT IS YOUR BIRTHDAY! IF— [record scratch stops music, then static] —Wait, what?
Solid Snake: [Couch members look around confused] ...What happened to the music?
    Psycho Mantis: HAHAHAHAHA! WRETCHED FOOL!
    Entire Couch: [scared] Aaaaaahhhh!
  • Lani saying "Metal Gear!" in Snake's voice even more after a chat viewer suggested a drinking game for every time that he does it.
  • Kirran and Grant talking about Lani behind his back when Lani is actually there to hear whole the conversation without them noticing thanks to him hiding in a cardboard box.
  • The Couch trying to keep track of the patrol guards behind them while streaming and Lani trying to get their attention once they get the plane tickets to the real Motherbase as a background.
  • In Part 3, the crew have to trek through several screens of perilous, instant-kill Bottomless Pits. After finally making it through (after many, many deaths), they get a Codec from a resistance member named Diane... who warns them to watch out for traps. The Couch's reaction is glorious, complete with:
  • Kirran going on a Metal Gear code name generator website and getting Raging Raven as his code name.

TFS Plays - Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
  • Snake having to escape a guard swarm via the garbage chute and Lani making a Star Wars: A New Hope reference.
  • Lani and Grant correcting chat viewers by saying that it's tedious, not tricky, that they must follow the green beret soldier around the forest and the pattern to do so becomes super obvious, only for Grant to get caught mid-sentence.
Grant: And if you haven't learned it by the 18th time, you'll— [gets caught] You'll — WHAT!? [now yelling]
Lani: [also yelling] OHHHHH! You didn't learn it by the 18th time!
Grant: BUT HOW!? [Lani laughing hard] There was this whole tree! [moves Snake around tree for emphasis]
    • Grant becoming too complacent in following the soldier around and repetitively stopping in a spot where the soldier would obviously see him if he turned around and Lani having to ask what he is doing reminding him of the tree fiasco from earlier. Also, how quickly Lani wanted to kill the green beret soldier as soon as they didn't have to follow around him anymore.
  • Ben delightfully pointing out to Grant the Dr. Madnar connection to Dr. Modnar from Snatcher, only for them to try to avoid the topic terribly since they are still unsure if Lani has been replaced by a Snatcher yet.
  • When the egg hatches into a snake which than proceeds to eat all their rations.
  • They are excited when the get an owl and equip it at every opportunity.
  • When the gang meet the famous zanibar poisonous hamsters. They try various weapons only to be killed each time. The gang realize that they need cheese which the snake ate all of. Cue back tracking.
  • During their fight with Gray Fox, they find out that he was the man Gustava had been in love with.
Lani: I made your girlfriend love me.
    • Immediately afterward, Grant lands the finishing blow, sending the three into laughter.

TFS Plays - Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes
  • Similar to being spotted by the first enemy in the original Metal Gear, they are spotted and killed by the second enemy they come across.
  • When the DARPA chief and Armstech president both die of heart attacks during long monologues about the Pentagon, they joke that mentioning the Pentagon is a trigger.
  • Lani requests a compilation of all of Snake's one-word questions.
  • Grant's admission of thinking of Smash when throwing Grenades against Vulcan Raven, the Couch and the chats reactions are priceless.
  • During the fight with Psycho Mantis and the lead-up, the Couch deliberately pretends that they have never fought him before and really play up their awe at his powers.
    • And, of course, there's the meta-humor for the fight due to a special guest mod: TheREALPsychoMantis. He spams chat, randomly changes restrictions, deletes the chat log, mind controls the other mods, and echoes the game boss yells. Lani is puzzled why people are complaining as the mods are doing a great job.
    • Prior to this, much of the pre-stream fanart was replaced with Psycho Mantis fanart. During the boss encounter, the blue screen background was periodically co-opted by similar art.
  • Tracking down the sniper rifle, Grant runs just inches behind a guard and triggers an alarm. He proceeds to mow down nearly a dozen guards before realizing that they just keep spawning and running out of the zone... causing a soft save that means he's now down a lot of ammo and healing items.
  • The following happens in the fight with Sniper Wolf:
    • Realizing that one of the books that Snake's carrying has Sniper Wolf as the centerfold leads to Grant and Kiran pretending to be Snake trying to get her autograph... and not realizing that she's shooting at him.
    • Grant takes some advice from chat uses the Nikita, a guided rocket launcher.
    • Tries to angle the camera up just as the missile hits for an upskirt shot. This is indeed how the killing blow is dealt.
    • Grant pretending to Snake telling Otacon that he tried to save her, but the wolves kept shooting her with rockets.
    • "Otacon will remember that."
    • Checking a storage room reveals Nikita ammo, much to Grant and Kiran's delight — the developers knew.
  • While Revolver Ocelot monologues during the torture scene, the Couch jokes that he was kicked off of Tumblr, which is why he's telling all of this to Snake.
  • The Couch's reactions to every over-the-top action cutscene.
  • The Couch jokes that the hot card is burning Snake during a long cut scene with Naomi.
  • The Couch's fake reactions to the Master Miller reveal.
  • Grant impression of Liquid turns into the Millionaire from Gilligan's Island, something he acknowledges.
  • The Couch compares Liquid to Dio during his big monologue. It doesn't hurt that Liquid is dramatically posing the whole time.
  • During the Metal Gear boss fight, Grant as Snake: "This is supposed to be a stealth mission Liquid!"
  • Kirran calls Gray Fox's sword a 'weeb stick', and Lani calls his Arm Cannon a MegaBuster.
  • Super baby method!
  • "What is Clinton thinking!?"
  • In their final codec call, Otacon tells Snake that he's found a new reason to live. Lani's guess? Haruhi Suzumiya.
  • Meryl vest makes her look like Marty McFly.
  • The Couch's reaction to Liquid's appearance during the chase scene. "I misjudged the fall. It just slightly hurt."
  • Grant:
"It reminds me when I watched Naruto and how you can have the shittiest parents and still end up the best ninja. I never watched Shippuden."

TFS Plays - Interlude of Metal Gear - Zone of the Enders
  • Kirran describing Zone of the Enders as "Otacon's nerd dream" and effectively his own nerd dream, because it's a game about piloting Humongous Mecha, which Kirran is a big fan of.
  • The pre-stream video highlighting the Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Demo on the HD Collection's packaging before actually acknowledging that they will be playing Zone of the Enders that week.
    • Kirran calling the stream "Jehuty Day" in reference to the popular Mega64 video and using audio from it.
      • In the second skit video, Grant makes it seem that they will play a Metal Gear by taking out the Legacy Collection, but when he opens up the case, the Zone of the Enders HD Collection disc is inside instead.
  • Grant clearly pointing out which scenes got the high-definition treatment and which scenes are still pre-rendered video from the PlayStation 2 game.
  • Everyone's reactions to the game's early 2000s English dubbing direction.
  • The literal "cockpits" on the robots being piloted in the game.

TFS Plays - Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
Tanker Mission
  • As usual, they are spotted by the very first enemy on the very first stage.
  • After being informed about an Easter Egg that lets them hear Snake's inner thoughts during a Codec conversation, the Couch has a field day interpreting Snake's enthusiastic "NO WAY!" thought.
    • The Couch calls Otacon to save the game and tries listening to Snake's thoughts during the Codec conversation again... his thought is priceless.
Otacon: Do you want to save the game, Snake?
Snake: [Couch toggles the Easter Egg] NOT IN A MILLION YEARS!
Entire Couch: Hahahahaha! [they take a moment to catch their breaths but laugh harder when reminded how they sometimes ignore comments to save]
  • The Couch meet Liquid Ocelot and begin to wonder if transplanting other body parts could create an entire army of Liquid Snake clones.
    • They joke that the wolves ate the parts of him scattered across Alaska
Grant: Just a bunch of wolves going BROTHER!
Entire Couch (in an English accent): BROTHER! BROTHER! AROOOO! BROTHER!
  • Grant points out that this game is much more anime compared to Twin Snakes, which was more The Matrix-like.
  • After they finish the prologue, Grant wonders if this is the Roxas section of the game.
The Big Shell
  • The Couch's fake confusion at Snake's (actually Raiden's) voice.
  • "I am Raiden, God of Thunder."
  • Lani ignoring all messages and bit drops waiting for the BIRTHDAY Easter Egg to pop up in the game before going into his known "Birthday Rants" for the stream.
Lani: Ah-ha! This was all an elaborate ruse to get to this point! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
  • Even after being told to hide and despite being unconscious a moment ago, the Couch somehow still gets caught by the very first guard Raiden encounters.
Lani: How did that happen?! He was asleep!
Grant: I don't know! I hid behind the forklift!
Lani: ...You mean that forklift with the obvious open gap in the middle?
    Grant: Oh... right.
  • After listening to Raiden during the tutorial, Grant can see why people don't like him.
  • The Couch points out that Rose still calls Raiden "Jack" immediately after she was told to call him Raiden.
  • When trying to hang on a ledge, Grant lets go.
Lani: How did you fall!? You had a whole meter left!
Grant: I pressed X, and it would seem that X does not, in fact, "Give it to yah".
  • The Couch makes Raiden save in the girl's bathroom, triggering a scene in which Rose yells at him.
  • Lani telling Grant how Jack and Rose's name comes from Titanic (1997).
  • Lani gets trapped in a corner and tries to shoot his way out while yelling "This is a stealth mission!"
  • The Couch feigning ignorance on who "Iroquois Pliskin" really is.
  • Raiden insistence that he wasn't trained at half the stuff he has to do for the mission is a source of amusement for the Couch considering he keeps on bragging about how he's a great soldier since he was trained in VR.
    • Lani and Grant being amused at the thought that Raiden streamed all his VR Missions on Twitch with him saying a ton of clickbait phrases to get people to watch and subscribe.
Twitch Raiden: Don't forget to follow and subscribe to my channel to keep up with all my VR Mission playthroughs!
  • The Couch jokes that Pliskin already disarmed all his bombs, saved the president, stopped two Metal Gears and slept with Rose while Raiden was still looking for his bombs.
  • Lani hiding in a locker while the guards look for Raiden only for a guard to open up Lani's locker immediately after the search is called off, causing Lani to hit that guard and start up the alert again after he was safe from being found.
  • During the fight with Fatman while attempting to tackle him, Kirran has Raiden jump right off the platform to his death.
    • Followed up by the next stream with the Couch acknowledging how Mother Base is similar to the Big Shell and how they can sometimes see Raiden cartwheel off the same edge sometimes.
  • When Kirran had to leave early for a stream, he told Lani and Grant not to do anything too expository or plot-heavy. They almost immediately get caught in a long Infodump cutscene right after he leaves.
    • Grant's realization that they did the opposite of what was asked of them and his conversation with Lani about it is priceless.
      • To absolutely make sure they didn't make him miss more information they left the PS3 on for the whole week in-between streams only for the game to start glitching out with frame and audio skips immediately as they picked it back up the following Thursday.
Lani: Hey! This shit isn't supposed to happen until later in the game!
        Kirran: Yeah, way later!
  • All the players' reactions to the glitches after leaving the game on for a whole week.
Lani: You know, after thinking about it, we probably could have reloaded a save before the scene with the president and then just skipped over the all the cutscenes.
  • "Raiden, how are you doing?" "The water hurts my eyes, and it wasn't covered in my VR training."
  • When informed that they have to carry Emma around, Lani decided to tranq and drag her instead.
    • The Couch tries to drown Emma to get a rise out of Otacon, but after failing three times (and Raiden falling in the water), they settle with blowing her up with claymore mines instead only for themselves to be blown up by the mines. The chat calls this "deserved karma".
  • The chat tells the Couch to crawl on Emma and call Otacon, which they start only to realize that they don't have Otacon's frequency.
    • The chat tries to give them the Codec frequency, but either none of them worked, or the numbers themselves were auto-deleted by their chatbot because they were interpreted as links to websites instead.
  • The Couch agreeing there should be a trope titled "Guilt Parrot" after Emma's Parrot starts talking with her voice.
  • When presented with a save point in the middle of a lengthy cut scene the Couch is visibly relieved after what happened at the start.
Arsenal Gear
  • At the beginning of the stream Lani starts glitching out and keeps forgetting about Kirran's existence throughout the stream.
    Lani: Happy birth-birth-birth-birthday! Where's Kirran?
  • Like the Psycho Mantis stream, users by the names of "COL_Campbell" and "The Patriots AI" hijacked the Twitch stream's chat by making the mods glitch out, setting the game titles to non-canon Metal Gear games like Snake's Revenge and Ghost Babel, and giving the Couch advice about non-canon characters like Dr. Koppelthorn, La Clown, and Pyro Bison.
  • While a non-fazed Lani is snarking at The Colonel's glitches, Grant (who has never played this game) is trying to figure out what the hell is going on.
Colonel: To the left of me, there was an orange light in the sky...
    Grant: Colonel, that's the sun.
  • The Couch is repetitively caught and killed while sneaking around naked.
  • Grant is delighted when they get the High Frequency Blade.
  • Liquid: "I've been laying dormant in Ocelot's arm." Lani: "The older I get, the dumber that sounds."
  • The Patriots rants about information and context control could be applied to Twitter and Reddit.
    • Lani bitterly realizes the irony of playing this scene on the same night the FCC voted to take away Net Neutrality.
  • The Couch is bemused at the lack of response time, considering that there was a sword fight with the ex-president in the middle of New York.
  • Grant is still unsure if Rose is actually pregnant by the end of the game.

TFS Plays - Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Virtuous Mission
  • When Snake thinks that the Major said "Virtual Mission" instead of "Virtuous Mission", the Couch point out that virtual missions don't happen until years later and how they never actually never teach anyone anything useful, citing Raiden.
  • The Couch is treated to cutscenes using historical stock footage and they note how hilarious it would be if students learned "actual history" from the game... only to be informed by their Twitch moderator (who is also their Metal Gear consultant) that playing Metal Gear Solid 3 is exactly how he passed history class in high school.
  • Their delightful glee that their commander in the game wanted to be referred to as "Major Tom".
  • Grant avoided the trend of getting caught or killed by the first guard in this game... by being killed by a crocodile before he can even run into a guard.
  • The Couch loving all the 1960s pop-culture references and actually being curious about the information.
  • After hearing that they must make sure that no evidence can be left behind that America was involved with sneaking into Soviet territory, they decide to use the Italian Flag Camo Face Paint to make it seem like Italy did it if they get caught.
The Couch as fake Italian Snake with accent: I'mma justa lone Italian man sneaking into Russia!
  • Sokolov making karate & action poses the Couch play along saying he's a trained martial artist while noting how he just did the Kamehameha pose.
  • Everyone laughing as Lani feigns ignorance that he is setting things up to kill Ocelot 40 years early to avoid the problems in later games. Especially when Colonel Campbell who isn't even in this game calls out the "time paradox".
Lani: These buttons are actually pressure sensitive so you can aim the gun without shooting. [aims gun] DO NOT SHOOT! [shoots gun] Oops.
    • Since they can't actually kill Ocelot, Kirran decides to leave a dead body on his face to gross him out as he wakes up, only for it to be pointed out later he also put that body's butt in his face meaning he'll also wake up to excrement all over him.
  • The way they depict the Boss actually being Snake's mother and Snake constantly saying "But mom!"
    • When the Boss betrays them and throws Snake off a bridge, they can only reply with a "Mamma mia!", since they were still wearing the Italian Flag Face Paint during the cutscene.
  • When Colonel Volgin appears and says his "Kuwabara Kuwabara" chant, Lani immediately switches to his Kuwabara voice from Yu Yu Hakusho Abridged.
  • Lani starts singing the theme to Snake Eater only to start forgetting the lyrics, so he starts lip-syncing to the female singer but still gets credit for singing the whole song by Kirran and Grant.
Operation Snake Eater
  • After waiting for the Caution timer to count down so that they can move on towards the abandoned warehouse, and after the guards have left the area, Lani jokes that a soldier is straggling behind... only for that to be exactly what happened! They very nearly come completely out of cover right in front of said guard... and he doesn't even register Snake's presence at all. Their reactions to this whole thing are what really sells it.
Lani: Good thing Russia has the worst military!
  • The Couch wonder what will happen in the game if you throw a stun grenade in cave after getting surrounded by bats. It turns out that it not only kills at least 20 bats, but also every single animal in the cave!
  • Lani cheerfully singing the Snake Eater theme as he snipes a whole patrol team who can't figure out where he is shooting from.
  • While trapped in a shoot-out, Grant declares that all games with Guns are bad. However, Shadow the Hedgehog is an exception because it also has a bike that one can ride in
  • During his guest appearance, Martin Billany is somehow able to knock down three guards with the same kick.
Kirran: Did you guys see how he knocked down all those guys with the same kick that doesn't even go above two feet from the ground!?
  • The Couch find themselves in a shootout with a shotgun, causing a return of their catchphrase:
Lani: This is supposed to be a stealth mission!
  • Each player of the Couch takes a moment to do the infamous The Ladder Boss Fight and treat it like an actual boss fight by rotating who is in control of Snake after they die on purpose, however Kirran is reluctant to do so.
Kirran: [finding out that he has to do the Ladder] What!? No!
Lani: Look, it's only fair! [Kirran proceeds crawl to the Ladder to make things slower after it's suggested that he speedrun it]
    • Grant interpreting the Snake Eater song as a cold spoken read since he doesn't know the lyrics, and Kirran interpreting the lyrics actually being about fast food.
  • Kirran wanting to throw a live cobra at a guard only to accidentally misjudge the distance of the throw making it so that cobra goes after him, after backing away slowly the cobra turns around and goes after the guard who then kills the cobra. The Couch then proceed to shotgun the guard in revenge, wait for a vulture to start eating him, the kill the vulture to eat for themselves later.
  • Kirran delightfully pointing out the Fire Troopers that directly reference the one boss they fought in the original MSX Metal Gear.
  • Lani constantly making Snake meow whenever he puts on the Animals Camouflage they receive from Ocelot.
  • The Couch mowing down guards and Hind helicopters alike with the Anti-Air Gun Turrets.
Guard: Oh no! The enemy is destroying the helicopter with the Anti-Air Guns that just happened to be placed on their patrol route! How can this be!?
    • After receiving the RPG and firing a rocket at a Hind helicopter but missing, the helicopter just leaves the map
Hind Pilot: He's got an RPG now!? I can't deal with this, I want to live! [flies away] I'm outta here.
  • The Couch believes Ocelot making poses and revolving any gun he finds to be a fidget habit of his.
  • During the Fury boss fight: Lani attempting to snipe but repeatedly falling off the edge by accident when trying to avoid flames, Grant acknowledging his habit of thinking the X button will make him climb when it doesn't after falling overboard to punch and kick the Fury, and Kirran going in guns blazing after "learning the strat" but then losing track of the Fury because of his jetpack movement.
Groznyj Grad
  • After trying the "shoot first, ask question later" approach and failing, the Couch actually attempt to infiltrate Groznyj Grad by using the Scientist Uniform like they're supposed to. However, they also put on the Soviet Face Paint Camo, thinking that it would help blend them in — thus, they are caught almost instantly by a guard.

TFS Let's Watch - Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
  • Rather than playing the game, the Couch watch it in movie form as a MGSTFS3K special.
  • Them getting excited at the hints and nods to things that will happen later on in the series.
    • Also them debating back and forth on which parts of the game are canon and which parts are non-canon.
  • How they started getting more into the story when they found out a young Roy Campbell, the Colonel from the later games, was featured in this and how it explains his connections to Foxhound.
  • Their reactions to a few of the artistic choices, especially when Ocelot's art is shown.
  • Gene's line "Are you worthy enough to pull the trigger?", and how the Couch loved the delivery of it.
  • Lani loving Gene's multiple yells as he throws all his knives.
    • Kirran pointing out that Gene could rival Dio Brando with his speed and knife-throwing skills.

TFS Plays & Watch - Metal Gear GAIDEN - Metal Gear: Ghost Babel
  • Lani and Grant explaining Kirran's absence as him being on a stealth sneaking mission.
  • Grant joking that Lani ruined the surprise of him about to pull out a really large Game Boy for the stream only for Lani to honestly be curious if they even have an oversized Game Boy prop in the first place. (They don't.)
  • Them watching the long opening cutscene play out automatically on its own, without even getting to the main menu yet, and joking that Sans and Papyrus took over the game and are playing the Colonel and Snake due to the game's lack of voice acting being filled in by beeps and boops.
  • Their surprised delight to the game playing as well as it does, saying how the game feels more like a Game Boy Advance game or even a modern retro indie title as opposed to Game Boy Color.
  • Once again, the guys get caught by a guard in the first map area and trigger an alert phase.
  • Grant and Lani's audible displeasure that they have go back to switching out keycards instead of just having it on them and once again have to unequip and reequip keycards and gas masks back and forth.
  • The Couch actually acknowledge their tendency to immediately get caught within the first few minutes of starting a Metal Gear stream and calls it the TFS stream staple.
  • Lani and Grant's variety of expressions during the box conveyor belt maze.
    • Being in that maze for so long, they start joking that Slasher Hawk was the only boss fight and that the other bosses either don't show up until Ghost Babel 2, are currently getting killed off screen by Chris (who is still doing the mission without Snake), or will be killed off quickly by a cutscene like Decoy Octopus in Metal Gear Solid.
  • Lani calling Jimmy "Big Jim" before actually learning his nickname really is Jimmy.
  • Not remembering some of the names of the exclusive characters to this game, Grant and Lani just start giving them nicknames based off of their appearance like "Duke", "Vlad", and "Other Guy/Red Herring".

TFS Let's Watch & Play - Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
  • Before they even get to play the game, the Couch laugh about its reputation of being "a movie, not a game" in previous streams, even claiming that when they do get to the game, it'll be more like a "Let's Watch" for half of it.
Middle East
  • As usual, within five minutes of gaining control, the Couch is caught by an enemy — in this case, being jumped/stomped on by a Gekko which comes from off-screen.
    • This is immediately lampshaded by their guest JakatoX/JakatoXtra, one of their admin moderators and their personal Metal Gear series consultant, who directly points out that getting caught or killed by the first few enemies has become a series staple on the TV Tropes page, and he wanted to see if they could avoid it. He even admits not seeing the Gekko death coming and was utterly surprised by it, considering the very low odds of it happening.
  • After meeting Drebin and being told that they'll get more points for all the weapons they send him, Lani quickly fixates on Old Snake as a man obsessed with Drebin Points.
Old Snake: [approaching an unconscious enemy with a gun] Sorry, but I need the Drebin Points.
  • When Grant and Lani start sounding suspicious about Drebin, Jakato highlights to them how Drebin's business "Seems LEGITIMATE" in reference to the fact he was the mod who created Legitimate Larry for TFS at the Table which both of them are players in.
  • After it was noted that Drebin was named after Frank Drebin from The Naked Gun, Lani quotes the movie.
Old Snake: Who are you and how did you get in here?
    Drebin: I'm a locksmith, and I'm a locksmith.
  • People nicknaming their guest Jakato "Metal Gear Howard" thanks to having some similar looks and knowing everything about the series. He thinks that it's appropriate since Howard was their Kingdom Hearts expert and takes it as compliment.
  • During the second Metal Gear Solid 4 stream, right after having the Team Four Star moderator take over the stream the day before when the mods were chased out of the building and after being introduced on the stream, Jakato replies with the line "It's only me", in reference to Sam Fisher's line after hearing that Snake has retired, which was getting popular that week.
  • The many deaths of Rat Patrol Team 01, either because of being killed off by The Frogs or getting in Snake's way causing accidental friendly fire. The Couch characterizes Rat Patrol Team 01 as either suicidal or infants.
Grant: Alright, babies, are we ready to go now? Is the school field trip ready? Have you got your snacks? Everybody bring their orange slices and their permission slippies?
Kirran as Meryl: Johnny took my juice box!
Grant: Shut up, Meryl! Get on the bus. [Kirran fake-cries] Your mother is getting such a phone call when we get back...
    • Otacon's attempts at giving tactical support throughout the whole fiasco.
Otacon: You've strayed too far from Meryl and her team.
      Grant: They're right fucking there!
Grant as Otacon: You can't let them out of your sight. They're a bunch of—
      Kirran: They're children.
Grant: They're fucking sheep being led to the slaughter, Snake.
Grant as Otacon: All your teammates currently want to die, so they might dive in front of your bullets.
Grant: Snake, Johnny's putting his hand in the blender. Meryl's trying to drink the bottles under the sink.
    • It being noted that Snake is still the greatest solider because the soldier generation after him are worse than he is and are complete idiots.
Grant: That's why Snake is the best. Not because he's particularly skilled, everyone is just terrible.
Kirran: He's the best we got.
Grant: He's the greatest soldier in the world. I hear he can fire a gun without pointing it at himself. Dear God! He seems to have some kind of desire to survive.
      • The events surrounding this sequence got so bad that to Jakato's surprise, he was given the controller in the second stream despite being barred from playing the game for knowing too much in the first stream. This completely threw him off guard with him being unprepared and not expecting to play due to him thinking himself more as a "codec contact advice guy", with Grant chiming in that he's now a "long since retired field agent back in the field".
      • Subsequently, as he was relearning the game by playing it, he displayed plenty of skill through knowledge about the game's various weapon abilities, customization features, enemy locations, and tactics that the Couch was unfamiliar with, leaving them amazed by how different his playstyle was...only to lose all his progress because Meryl got caught in by his rocket launcher blast the last second.
  • After their guest Jakato gets his "groove" back with the game, he starts seriously managing the Drebin points, taking care of weapon unlocks, helping the local militia against the Private Military to gain allies, and plays the rest of the level very stealthy via means like the MK. II knockout, silenced tranquilizers to the head, enemy throw downs from behind, and then eliminating them while they were asleep. The Couch openly admits it probably would have taken them a couple of streams just to get to that point and maybe a few more streams after that just to learn about the Drebin Shop features outside of collecting points if was just them playing doing it.
  • It being pointed out that Kirran getting the codename Raging Raven from the Metal Gear 1 stream is now in full circle once the actual Raging Raven appears on screen.
  • Kirran and Jakato trying to give many clues to Grant to see if he could piece together that Revolver Ocelot is the Boss and the Sorrow's son, explaining how Liquid Ocelot is a thing.
  • Kirran makes a joke about Revolver Ocelot actually being Stan Lee, only for Jakato to point out that Stan Lee seriously dressed up as Revolver Ocelot for a video game award show once. Kirran refuses to believe it until Grant pulls up a video of it confirming it to be true.
South America
  • The Couch reacting to Laughing Octopus changing her face to look like Old Snake but retaining her body shape.
  • Lani rescuing a Rebel Solider by knocking out an enemy PMC soldier while trying to help them & being stealthy only for said Rebel Solider to wake up the enemy solider by kicking him and putting the whole area on alert
  • Jakato in the chat pointing out there's a UFO crop circle on the way to find Naomi and it just happened to be International Alien Day when they were streaming.
  • Lani building up the hype for Raiden's reappearance since it was the coolest scene in the original trailer advertisements for the game.
  • Grant wonders if there's an in-game explanation as to why the Gekkos moo like a cow and immediately calls out to Jakato not to tell him if there is, since he would like to keep it a mystery so that he can endlessly imagine the reason.
Eastern Europe
  • Lani specifically remembers Dr. Madar trying to choke Snake but now seemingly being "okay" just because he's helping Raiden, but his interpretation of Old Snake still holds a grudge.
  • Grant and Lani's reactions to Otacon and Naomi's potential romance, calling it "nerd love".
  • This act being one big homage to Snatcher and Grant seeing all the callbacks to that game.
  • Johnny giving away Snake's cover and Lani's Old Snake interpretation chewing "Johnny Metal Gear" out for it.
  • Grant & Lani's thoughts that the Resistance Soldier is starting to think he suddenly has superpowers since he keeps making guards fall asleep as he's about to get caught each time.

Outer Haven

TFS Plays - Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
  • Long before the playthrough, the Couch have already been quoting Raiden and his voice from this game every once in a while during his appearances in the previous titles.
  • They, of course, have Raiden dress in a poncho and sombrero as soon as they unlock the costume.
  • During the final battle, every time Grant defeats the two minions, two more pop up. He doesn't realize they're new guys and just thinks he can't kill them.
  • Lani pointing out that Armstrong is just saying relevant conservative talking points in his villain monologue.

TFS Let's Watch - Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
  • When Paz is introduced as 16, Lani says "no lewds". As soon as he says this, the game shows her in her underwear.
    Lani: I said no lewds!
  • The fact the game has advance drones while taking place in the 70s.
  • Them pointing out how a voice actor sounds exactly like Kent Williams, but them have trouble remembering his name, and even then turns out not to be Kent Williams.
  • Everytime something difficult happens, they remark they are glad they didn't have to play that part.
Grant: I'm sure we would have found a way to get two hours out of this fight...
  • The gun standoff scene in the war room.
Lani: We weren't even supposed to bring guns in here!
  • Out of everything they've seen Snake do, catching the leg of Metal Gear Zeke pushes their suspension of disbelief to the point of extreme laughter.

TFS Plays - Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
  • Before they even start streaming the game, they joke that if they only play the default mission, it wouldn't even take up a whole stream, after hearing how short it is.
  • The Couch's reaction to Kiefer Sutherland as Big Boss.
Lani: Boss, do you need a lozenge? Your voice seems...
Grant: I just wanna hear the Boss [say] "Chole, how far am I?"
  • The Couch wrapping their heads around the fact that Paz, Chico, and a PSP Title are important to MGSV as well as the canon.
  • Kirran realizes that XOF is FOX backwards moments before it's revealed on screen.
  • The Couch's reaction to Boss' "kept you waiting".
Lani: Snake, who are you talking to?
  • Lani tries and fails to shoot through the chain link fence.
  • While waiting for an alert to die down, Lani hides near a cave.
Lani: The only place we didn't check is that cave by the cost and that's haunted. I'm not going there.
Grant: We can't go by that haunted alcove.
Kirran: Last time, Gary went in there, he came back without a butthole.
Lani: And it turned Steve gay.
  • Grant bemoans the fact that they can't do a Snake impression, as he just sounds like Kiefer Sutherland now.
  • Grant jokes that Chico talks like George from Revengeance.
  • The reason Chico freaks out is that he doesn't recognizes Boss's new voice.
Kirran: Kiefer Sutherland shows up, that's not David Hayter. Who the fuck is that man?
  • The best way to sneak around the base? Get in the tank and kill everyone.
Grant: It's stealth if they can't point you out in a line-up. No one can see your face in a tank.
Lani: Exactly. No one knows who I am. They don't know my story.
  • During the ending cutscene, Grant jokes that Paz has a bomb inside of her, completely unaware that she actually does. Lani makes the most hilarious face at this. Then, after it's removed, Kirran jokes that there's a second one literally the moment before the second bomb is revealed.
  • During a side mission they rescue an agent, revealed to be Hideo Kojima.
Lani: Is that... is that the Howard Wang?

TFS Plays - Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
  • As always, they get caught by one of the very first enemies in the game.
  • Following the rescue of Miller, they interpret his angry speech about Diamond Dogs as him on drugs.
Lani: We have the dogs with the teeth of diamonds. We're gonna bite into their flesh with vengeance of pains for all our lost dogs. For the puppies, Snake, for the puppies!

TFS SURVIVE - Metal Gear Survive
  • Before the stream on Twitch, their moderators edited the titles and commands for the day to reflect how everyone was nervous that TFS was actually playing the game by taking multiple jabs at DLC, micro-transactions, and Konami making the game in the first place.
  • Lanipator and Takahata bemoaning the fact they have to sit through and play the game given its reputation, and instantly seeing the features that are hidden behind a paywall.
  • Both Taka and Lani going completely silent when they "can't deal" with something in the game making expressions — solemn faces, depressed looks away from the camera, and being completely exhausted by it. This got to the point that Lani commented on wanting to see a cut of the playthrough in which it's just those parts.
  • The game taking forever before they could even "play" it due to bland cutscenes and long boring tutorials by monotone A.I. voices.
  • While wandering around a complex, they're spotted by the Wanderers. They're in so little danger that when one of the Wanderers falls over a clearly visible obstacle, they run back to offer assistance.
  • The Couch joking about the XOF member looking and being Matt Mercer doing the bare minimum for a paycheck because Konami couldn't get Troy Baker back.

TFS Plays - Intermission of Metal Gear - Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner
  • Prior to the Couch actually playing the game, it's become a recurring joke in their Twitch stream chat that Dingo Egret — the main character of the game — keeps bailing at the last minute or isn't returning their calls, thus preventing them from actually playing it.
