In General

  • The large swath of songs that you would not associate playing taiko drums with. Ever wanted to play taiko drums to the tune of, say, The Idolmaster songs or "Captain Neo"? Here you go.
  • The multi-game crossover event in 2014, featuring crossovers from maimai, Groove Coaster, and jubeat. BEMANI fans can most likely guess what song got crossed over from jubeat: "FLOWER" by DJ YOSHITAKA, which is notorious for being promoted and crossed over into every active BEMANI series.
  • Some of the ridiculous costumes you can make your taiko wear definitely fall into this category, like the schoolgirl or Kumamon ensembles. And if you colour your taiko black, the Kumamon costume becomes almost Narm-worthily derpy.
  • In many versions, on Easy difficulty, Don-chan will shout "Renda!!" (Button Mashing) whenever a Drum Roll, a Balloon or a Mallet appears. So on tracks that spam these notes like "Mopemope", he'll shout this phrase multiple times in quick succession!
  • It's difficult, but possible to get a full combo while still losing due to having so many OKs that the soul meter is not high enough to pass a level (known as "No Clear No Miss"). It's only possible on Oni and not possible on the Wii versions as these versions will let you pass if you get a full combo. This is even more difficult than a full combo because you have to intentionally hit as many OKs as possible on top of not missing, but the fact that you can try to lose for doing something even harder than a full combo is just hilarious.
    • Even funnier, on the 3DS version, the golden crown for full combo will show up as the background becomes blue and filled with cobwebs.

Songs

  • Even wonder how a song composed entirely of big notes would look like? Try "Oodain"'s Oni chart, and hit at least three Goods on the first blues. You'll enter the Master chart where every note is a big note. The Normal chart and other difficulties for this song? The same colors mostly in small notes. And the melody itself is goofy and upbeat. It's less funny if you are trying to get a high score on consoles since you'll need to hit every note with both sides, but still.
    • By the way, its name literally means "big hit sounds", but it's also a pun on Namco's another game, Ordyne, because it's a remix of that game's theme.
  • The preview for "Donkama 2000" literally starts right at the part where the man shouts "nani?!" followed by intense beating sounds.
  • Since the game can't have any horror visual elements at all, how does the game handle "Mopemope"'s hell part? It mixes a lot of special effects seen in harder charts to give the "wrong" feeling: First the barlines "collapse" and are not seen until the music returns normal again, then a Donkama-like large note appears (that perfectly syncs with the second hell part), then very quick drum rolls and stacked notes, and finally the balloon on Oni is followed by some 8OROCHI-styled notes.
  • "Ace Attorney Trilogy Medley" also has a big blue note that acts like the big red note from "Donkama 2000" near the end. Like "Donkama 2000", there are little to no clues on how to hit it (unlike "Waraeru 2000"'s red note which is preceded by four blue notes), as it lands on the gavel sound that happens after the music has stopped.
  • Some songs from the "2000 series" that aren't scary are hilarious.
    • "Koibumi 2000" has a girl reading a beautiful love letter while a death metal rock plays in the background. Then it ends with the girl saying "Dear my sister".
    • "EkiBEN2000'' is about a man rapping about his frustration when he could not buy lunch on the train and gets an annoying child bothering him, with occasional Sound-Effect Bleep (which is actually represented by drum rolls).
    • "Kita Saitama 2000" has its lyrics introducing some geometry stuffs by shouting. Similarly, "Mata Saitama 2000" shouts "Jelly fries!" really loud.
    • "Mada Saitama 2000" is about a man finding himself missing 30 stations after falling asleep on a train. Then he goes insane.

Mini-game

  • The "Bakusou! Love-love Donko" mini-game from Wai Wai Happy! Rokudaime for PS2 has Don and Katsu escaping from Donko, who apparently ate a mushroom that transform her into the giant sized and makes her love-crazy at the same time. Giuseppe Verdi's "Requiem - Day of Wrath" playing during stage 3 of the mini-game just makes the situation wackier.

Storyline

  • Taiko no Tatsujin Wii
    • At some point during the storyline, Don-chan had turned into a delinquent and starts making loud noises around the neighborhood, having inspired by a TV show he watched. To make matters worse, the Dokon-Dan joins in making noises too!
    • When it seems that there's no one here to stop them, an unlikely hero(?) had appeared: Donko. Donko confronted them and tried to convince them to stop, but the delinquents(?) ignores her. Having enough of their antics, Donko proceed to punch them into the sky with a single punch!
  • Taiko no Tatsujin: Atsumete Tomodachi Daisakusen
    • This is how the story starts: During the trip in the airport, Katsu, the younger one of the taiko duo, slip on a banana peel and unable to stop himself before he crashed onto a wall, knocking him out. When he wakes up, he find out that the Wada household (plus Hana) were left for Hawaii without him.
    • In the ending, Katsu immediately felt down after being told by Don and co. that they aren't aware that Katsu isn't with them. What followed after that is Katsu receiving a scolding from both Grandpa Kiyoshi and his grandson Tetsuo, after the grandpa was shocked to find out that his house is literally filled with animals!
  • Taiko no Tatsujin: Don and Katsu's Space-time Adventure
    • Of all of Timedyne's underlings, Pietro's design is the most hilarious, being a comedically ugly man dressing like a woman. And during the battle with him he tries to obscure your views by blowing kisses.
    • In the pyramid, Cleopatra is granted the power of "eternal beauty" by a mysterious voice, and right after that she joins you in the chapter boss battle, her sprite shows that a muscular spirit is accompanying her. So what's funnier? After the battle, the spirit begins talking to her, telling her that he'll happily grant her the eternal beauty of muscles, causing Cleopatra to be embarrassed.
      • Even funnier, in the epilogue, he splits into three copies of himself!
    • After the fight with Andrew, he still has the strength to fight and the kids begin to beg for his mercy and tell him that their mother is sick. His response? After a moment of silence, he bursts into Ocular Gushers and agrees to help their mother and pull off a Heel–Face Turn.
