Funny / Star Wars: Kenobi

Go To

  • The prologue, Kenobi trying to get directions to the Lars' farm and having to defuse a bar fight without blowing his cover, is narrated from the perspective of a very intoxicated local farmer, Wyle Ulbreck. This includes Ulbreck considering whether to go home because, after all, his wife is waiting for him and then deciding not to because his wife is waiting for him. Also Ulbreck trying to stand up to give the bartender a piece of his mind but being sidetracked by a vicious attack from the floor. And finally Ulbreck swearing off drink after witnessing the craziness that is a Jedi in disguise coming to the rescue without cluing anyone in that it's a Jedi rescue.
    • A later, parallel situation occurs later in the book at Annileen's store where Kenobi once again has to save the day without appearing to save the day, and Ulbreck once again witnesses it without really understanding what happens. Kenobi is careful to give all the credit to Ulbreck who is very happy to take it, which does not please Orrin one bit since Ulbreck is already an arrogant pain in his neck.

  • Annileen's introductory scene has a customer, Erbaly Naptee, asking Annileen if she works at the store. Annileen owns the store, and Naptee is a long-time customer who's never bothered to learn to tell humans apart, so we get a nice intro to Annileen's full snarker mode.

  • Annileen tries to deny to her friend Leelee that she's thinking about Ben Kenobi. Leelee points out that Annileen just addressed a package to the "Kenobi System".
    • Leelee in general shipping Annileen with Ben, to Annileen's discomfort, and pointing out what a great catch he'd be.

  • Annileen delivers goods that Ben bought but forgot to take to his house and finds him trying to reason with a bantha calf that is banging his head against Ben's house.
Annileen: What are you planning to do with that rope?
    Ben: I'm considering hanging myself.

  • A'Yark tries to tell Ben that he's a great warrior, but since Basic is A'Yark's second language, it comes out as "great worrier" the first time.

  • Annileen is on her way to Mos Eisley with the kids and stumbles across Ben in the middle of the desert trying to reason with his eopie, Rooh, who refuses to move. Turns out Rooh is in a certain condition and not inclined to move until her calf is born.

  • When Annileen gets a new speeder, her kids start arguing over who gets the old one. Annileen solves the problem by saying they can share it. When Ben asks if this is a good idea, she says, "Oh, yes. This way when they finally run away from home, they'll get farther."

  • Despite it being a serious scene, there's just something funny about the Tuskens' bantha stampede/diversion being trailed more sedately by Ben's eopie and eopie calf.
