Funny / Shuukan Shounen Hachi

Go To

Hachi might be a more serious series than its predecessor, but that doesn't stop hilarious moments from being abundant.

  • Right from chapter 1, Hachi and Saru mistake Mike for a girl. Classic gag. Except Saru then asks Mike for his contact anyway. Seeing Myaako struggle to hold back her laughter is quite priceless too.
  • In chapter 2, Hachi braces himself for some harsh critism from Mike about his storyboard. Mike's review is so brutal it leaves him near-catatonic for a moment… and Mike himself can't find words to describe how bad it is at first.
    • In the same chapter, after a review session, we get a shot of two art busts yelling at each other… before we realize Hachi and Mike are using them to fight. After which Ms. Shinonome proceeds to kick them out in the cold with a big smile, they spend the end of the chapter taking shots at each other, and we get to see Mike's more… quirky character traits.
  • In chapter 3, the boys must all tell which girl in their class they're interested in. Their answers all begin with "at first…" before they pick their girl − and Saru guesses that Hachi's into Myaako. Then the next page, Saru asks "Who was going to say 'Mikeya'?" Everyone's hands raise.
  • A good chunk of chapter 4 is Alice trying to maintain her threatening image, but inevitably showing her true colors as 160 cm of honey and sugar.
  • Handa's Love Epiphany in chapter 13 is represented by a double splash page with rows of soldiers playing trumpets, floating panda heads and giant hearts pierced by a laserbeam. The absurdly over-the-top presentation combined with her expression is absolute gold.
  • Chapter 34 has Hachi first refusing the help of Handa and Inohara for his manuscript. So he calls the editor Minatokaze for advice. The latter casually takes the call almost naked, with a dominatrix sitting on him.
Hachi: What's this whipping sound I keep hearing?
Minatokaze: I'm… just doing some research.
  • Chapter 37 reveals that Handa has at least two different panda masks, one soft and flexible, the other hard so that she can hit people with it. Hachi finds himself on the receiving end of the latter, and rightfully asks why she would need such a thing.
