Funny / RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under

Go To

    Series 1
  • Prior to the season filming, production moved from Australia to New Zealand but not before NSW parliment discussed trying to keep the show in Australia for revenue. This included an actual politican giving an empassioned speech to parliment chockablock full of drag slang.
  • Jojo loves Karen's entrance look so much that she wants it for herself, saying "she took my land, it's only far I take her fashion"
  • Poor Elektra just wanted to be on the show but now it's become a work outing thanks to the fact that two of the other competitiors are her real life bosses. This becomes the source of a lot of jokes during the introductions from Kita cheekily confirming that Elektra does work for her, to Art saying she hoped that Elektra didn't swipe anything from the costume rack before coming here, to Anita roasting Elektra appromimately three seconds after walking into the work room. Both of them are quick to point out that no matter what happens in the competition, afterwards they'll go back to being Elektra's bosses.
Elektra, leaning away from a hug: Yeah, I'm not at work right now
Anita: Well if you were, you'd still be doing nothing!
  • Etcetera licks the wall to claim her work station and explains herself as such with the uptmost confidence and casualness
  • Quite a bit of time is dedicated when the queens are first dedraging to being in awe of the size of Maxi's breastplate
  • Etcetera and Coco stand off to the side as everyone gets out of drag and makes comments like a greek choir. All of their comments are gold but one stand out is Coco having spent a considerable amount of time dragging Elektra's dry wig being shocked that Elektra was a hot guy.
  • Jojo shaves off her eyebrows for drag but wears fake ones out of drag that the other queens notice. Cue her whipping around with her eyebrows purposefully on crooked saying "I'm shooketh that you clocked me"
  • Rhys makes a strong start as Down Under's third judge
Ru: Welcome to the family, Rhys!
Rhys: Thank you! But I'm confused, do I call you mother or father?
Ru: Call me the one that signs your paychecks.
Rhys: Oh, so I call you daddy.
  • Elektra's Hometown look is inspired by Auckland's Maori name meaning 'Land of a thousand lovers' as a testament to the fact that New Zealand isn't just All Blacks (a rugby team) and sheep. The other two Kiwis in the cast (who happen to be her actual bosses) based their Hometown looks off of the All Blacks and sheep.
    • Anita clarifies "Sexy sheep!" and flashes her tits
  • While trying to guess what the next challenge could be, Etcetera blurts out that it could be a shoey. The reference is lost on the three Kiwis in the cast so the rest of the queens have them each do it. When they finish and put the heels down, Kita asks who's shoes did they just use which leads to everyone staring blankly at the three heels when no one takes ownership.
  • Episode 3 the queens all come in with balloons and some of them inhale the helium to get high voices (or at least pretend to). There's no explanation on where they got the balloons and aside from Etcetera shoving two down her bathing suit they aren't seen again.
  • Elektra's girl group fakes a fight in the workroom just for the crack up
  • Kita's verse ends with the line "get in close to this overdose!" after doing that line for the first time in recording she just looks to Michelle and asks "Problematic?"
  • The entirely of Anita's "Queens Down Under" verse is this, but the crowning moment is the line "my dry ass pussy is serving you gran" as she flashes the audience her cat print panties
  • It's becoming something of a Running Gag of Ru and Rhys being geniunely frightened by Anita's general existence
  • Etcetera finds a note in Coco's workstation saying 'watch out' which leads to the queens trying to figure out who wrote it. Elektra says it couldn't be Kita because Kita can't spell. Cut to Kita in a confessional whispering "I wrote the note!" before the camera does a close up on her doing her makeup with a very intense expression while creepy music plays. She didn't really, as Kita admits laughing in the confessional a second later while adding that she wished she thought to write a note like that.
  • Elektra absolutely rips into Ecterera when the latter tries to give an outside opinion. "Why don't people like Etcetera focus on not being so safe? If I'm the Beyonce, she's the Michelle. No, you know what she's not the Michelle, she's the one that left Destiny's Child first and I can't even remember her name."
  • Ru shadily asks Scarlet if she has any advice for Elektra which leads to the two of them having a spat while every other queen in the room is absolutely dying from laughter watching it and giving the hammiest reactions
  • Elektra taking out her frustration by tearing off the heads of some teddy bears with her bare hands.
  • Etcetera is surprised that Kita was safe in the design challenge, finding her outfit poorly made and lacking in taste. She even takes the headpiece Kita made and wears it in the confessional before quickly taking it off out of fear it would infect her with bad ideas.
  • Karen goes for a high five, Anita goes for a hug, Karen narrowly avoids hitting Anita right in the face
  • Anita handles her elimination gracefully but as she's about to leave the workroom for the last time she starts swiping makeup and asseccories off of tables and runs out of the room with an armful of stuff
  • In an otherwise emotional moment as the queens are distraught seeing Anita go, Karen tearfully asks "How can you send someone like Anita home?" which leads Kita, also tearing up, to say "Quite easily, apparently."
  • With Anita gone, the two remaining Kiwi queens Kita and Elektra break off from the group to talk.
Elektra, watching the other queens: What do you think? If you can take two I can probably take three
Kita: I've never taken two before but I'm excited to try
  • The reading challenge has some great bits:
Maxi: Scarlet, the only time you have something between your ears is when you're sucking dick
Kita: We have so many talented Aussie queens, hilarious Kiwis, and Etcetera.
    • Etcetera reads Karen by saying she looks like she enjoys hemmorids and everyone cracks up solely out of confusion, Karen even says in a talking head that she has no idea what that means.
    • Scarlet says in a talking head that she's surprised people didn't go harder on her so a producer asks her to read herself. She comes up with "The only thing bigger than your hole is the bald spot on the back of your head" the producer is audibly shocked that she has a bald spot since she covers it well and Scarlet ends up pointing to the camera and shouting that they cut this out of the final edit.
  • Guest Suzanne Paul just getting more shocked by the queens' increasingly vulgar commercial ideas.
  • This exchange:
Art: Has anyone ever done anything in drag that they regret?
    Elektra: My first three runways
  • Elektra talking about how Maxi paired up the queens to the makeover partners. "The only pairing that seems suspect is Kita and Cal because Cal is very handsome and Kita is... Kita is... Kita is a really good friend."
