Funny / Recovery of an MMO Junkie

Go To

As a highly regarded anime romcom, it shouldn’t be any surprise that the show has quite a few funny moments.

  • Basically anytime Koiwai’s onscreen, but if we’re being specific:
    • Koiwai returns Sakurai’s dropped chopsticks in a way that tells you everything you need to know about him.
    • Koiwai’s request to go out with Mori is both hilariously over-the-top and a perfect demonstration of how well he can read ‘Morimori’, leaving her no room to back out. The fact that he’s doing this entirely to set her up with Sakurai dispels any remaining creepiness and just turns it into hilarity.
    • The Reveal of his avatar when he tries out Fruits des Mere: it’s a giant, muscular, busty woman that, unlike Hayashi and Lily, speaks with Koiwai’s voice.
    • Koiwai’s last scene ends his role in the show as it lived: teasing Sakurai and Morioka and playfully nudging the two together by loudly wishing the two a happy date, whether they’re willing to admit it’s one or not.
      • To top it off, the home video version reveals exactly what Koiwai says when he whispers something to Sakurai, a suggestion to take Morioka to a love hotel after their date. No wonders why Sakurai flushes red!
  • Morioka and Sakurai’s back-and-forth apologies. The two just cannot figure out when to stop.
    • The first instance occurs after Sakurai accidentally runs into a sick Morioka and winds up knocking her unconscious. Her constant apologies cross over from Tear Jerker and end up becoming this.
  • In the OVA, Morioka ends up finding herself in the world of Fruits de Mer while practically defenseless, and gets saved by her own character. Even funnier, Kanbe is Fujimoto's boss, so Fujimoto is essentially taking orders from himself.
  • In the climax, Princess Sakura defeats Demon King Koiwai by putting on the sexy armor that Morioka refused to wear, humiliating Koiwai so much that he's defeated. Unfortunately for Sakura, he can't take it off.
