• Moist von Lipwig treats a horse-shaped golem as a person (or at least as a horse-shaped person), and next thing you know, it's demanding of its stablers, "Give me livery or give me death!"
• When Of the Twilight the Darkness (a Goblin, a race which hasn't quite integrated modern hygiene yet) meets the Marquis de Aix-Et-Pains, he says "Don't worry about the smell. I'll get used to it". The Marquis bursts out laughing.
• Death deflates a saboteur’s mistaken belief that Tak would reward him for his extremist beliefs and actions, telling the dwarf to begin praying as hard as possible for forgiveness so that his god is at least merciful.
• Harry King's very apt description of Moist:
  Harry King: "He's the kind of man who'd follow you into a revolving door and still come out in front."
