Funny / Pacific Rim: Uprising

Go To

  • When Jake and Amara are trying to escape from November Ajax there is plenty of humor in trying to outwit the giant. November Ajax's speaking pilot is snarky, unamused by Scrapper rolling away, even asking "Seriously?" To Jake using one of Scrapper's batteries to temporarily overcharge November Ajax's power, making it lock up and stutter mid-sentence.
Amara: How long until November Ajax's system reboots?
[cue Scrapper slamming into a giant blue foot]
    Jake: About that long.
  • The comical way that November Ajax taps on Scrapper with a finger that's almost the size of the mini-Jaegar itself.
  • At one point Jake goes to get some ice cream from the PPDC kitchen and runs into Nate. Jake uses the noise from the whipped cream can to drown him out, and ends up exasperating Nate with the amount of toppings he's putting on his sundae.
  • Jake imitating Nate: "Get out of my Jaeger. I'm handsome. And sexy." Even Mako's in stitches. And then he promptly acknowledges that Nate is handsome and sexy.
  • When Hermann and Newt have to fight their way out of Shao's goons in the elevator, Hermann does very well for himself using some cane-fu and groin attacks. Newt meanwhile has trouble with one man, albeit the only one to draw his sidearm, and asks Hermann, the older man that is handicapped and dealing with three guys, for a little help.
  • Doubles as Squick but the idea that Newt has a kaiju brain for a "girlfriend", which he um... regularly engages in sensual drifting with. Now he's just way more than a "kaiju groupie"...
  • After an entire movie full of Ship Tease, Jules kisses Lambert on the cheek... and then does the same to Jake.
    Jake: Well, that was confusing.
  • The sheer anticlimax of the fourth kaiju that emerged from the breach. It climbs out of the portal ever so menacingly, rears out of the water revealing itself to be way, way bigger than other kaiju seen before... and then the portal closes and bisects it and it instantly dies.
  • When the three Kaiju make their way through Tokyo, Raijin is viciously punching and headbutting the buildings in his path, while Hakuja is tunneling under the ground and crawling up skyscrapers like a gecko. Shrikethorn, however, just seems to be grumpily ambling through town and shoving things out of his way, all the while making awkward, unfitting seal noises.
  • During the takeoff for the final battle, Ilya starts playing a familiar song to relax... the Trololo Man!
  • During the battle in Mega Tokyo, after Bracer Phoenix is sent crashing through buildings by the Kaiju Raijin, the Jaeger impacts sideways on Guardian Bravo who was running some distance away. Both Jaegers go down, with Guardian Bravo's left fist landing incredibly close to a random car on the street and triggering its car alarms.
  • Jake's reaction to Raijin continuously no-selling the skyscrapers that are being dropped on it:
Jake: How many buildings can this things take?!
  • Gipsy Avenger doing Gipsy Danger's famous fist-in-palm battle pose — then promptly almost falls flat on its face due to Jake and Amara's shaky bond.
Jake: I thought that would be epic... but it wasn't.
  • When the brainwashed Newt starts cheering on the Mega Kaiju, it suddenly turns toward him, approaches very close and stares murderously at him for a few seconds before stomping away. All Newt can do is to say an awkward "Bye!" at the departing monster.
  • The Mega Kaiju pausing momentarily at the peak of Mt. Fuji as if showing disappointment at its lot in life.
  • Hell, the Precursors entire plan counts in a twisted way: have a kaiju suicidally jump into a volcano!
  • A Meta example; thanks to Honest Trailers the first Pacific Rim has a bit of a reputation as the film where giant robots punch giant monsters in the face. So Uprising flips it totally, having Gipsy Avenger punch Raijin in the face to open their fight — and the power of the punch just charges up the Kaiju to make it even stronger, leading to Gipsy Avenger getting pimp-slapped a good half mile through Tokyo.
  • In Ascension, there's Gottlieb's almost blowing himself up by accident when he combines Kaiju blood with rare earth minerals.
