• During Edward and Bella's first conversation. From his perspective, we see he's completely baffled for once at not being able to read a person's thoughts.
  I was entirely lost. So I gave up. There was just no making sense of the girl.
• Edward fussing about Bella getting into another accident while he's not around and imagining some of the possibilities.
  Edward: Stray bear in town. Of course it would head straight for Bella.
• Emmett waiting for Edward after his first conversation with Bella.
  How did it go? He wondered warily.
  "Nobody died," I mumbled.
