Volume 1

• Makoto happens to run into Matsuda and Motohama after the two of them got caught peeping at the Kendo Club, again. Makoto gives them a piece of advice that might help them not get caught by the club.
  Makoto: Maybe next time stop yelling stuff like "Murayama's got huge titties" while you're peeping and maybe you'll get a glimpse for more than five seconds.
  Matsuda: A very excellent point.
• Makoto's reaction to his mother's explanation after a meeting with the supernatural.
  Makoto: Let Me Get This Straight.... God has been dead for centuries.
  Gabriel: Yes.
  Makoto: Heaven has been taken over by the Goddess of Death.
  Gabriel: Yes.
  Makoto: Forcing you to live on Earth, where you fell in love in love with a human.
  Gabriel: Yes.
  Makoto: And gave birth to me.
  Gabriel: Yes.
  Makoto: It's official. Nothing makes sense anymore.

Volume 2

• Makoto has been having some troubling dreams and not been getting much sleep. Asia volunteers to take him to the Occult Research Club room.
  Makoto: Shouldn't I go see the nurse if I'm fatigued this bad?
  Asia: I am your nurse.
  Makoto: Fair point.
• After hearing the story of Akeno and his mother's past with the Himejima family, Makoto mentions how mature Akeno was at that age.
  Makoto: When I was that age I was still going 'Hey, y'all. Watch this,' and I would have been off my legs for a week if not for my healing abilities.
  Gabriel: If I'm not mistaken, that's how you learned to heal…
• Makoto and Akeno arrive to visit the Himejima family to figure out about the claim that they are holding Ravel Phenex hostage. While Makoto is dressed in a nice suit, Akeno is wearing a kimono.
  Makoto: Did I dress for the wrong occasion?
  Akeno: No, You look quite sharp.
  Makoto: Yeah, sharp as in I look like a member of the yakuza next to you.
  Akeno: Accompanied by his mistress.
  Makoto: You are not my mistress.
  Akeno: I can be if you want~
  Makoto: Good grief.
• Makoto is frustrated with himself for not preventing Akeno from being injured. Akeno is just wondering why he isn't using the fact that she is bedridden to take advantage of her.
• Makoto comes up with "Armor Break" to deal with Hagane's magic armor. Unfortunately for him, the attack ends up causing Hagane to only be in her underwear. Cue him quickly draping his coat over her.
  Makoto: [Narrating] It worked!... Too well.
  • And then when he tells Rias and Koneko that he is going alone to fight Enrico.
    Koneko: You can't be serious. What are you going to do? Strip his clothes too?
    Makoto: We are not speaking of that again.
