  • The entire beginning scene with the bomb threat. Riggs takes it upon himself to go deal with the car bomb himself, with Murtaugh following him in. He simplifies the Wire Dilemma, with a Call-Back to the toilet bomb in the last film.
Murtaugh: Wait, how can you be so sure?
Riggs: Oh, it's just a hunch.
    Murtaugh: YOU'RE PLAYING A HUNCH?!
Riggs: Hey, you remember the bomb under your toilet?
Murtaugh: Oh shit, how could I forget?
Riggs: Red wire, blue wire, same thing. This is more simplified though. A bit more powerful, but more simplified.
    • They get interrupted when a cat jumps on the roof of the car.
Murtaugh: Riggs, everyone else is outside. Only me, you and this cat are dumb enough to be down here.
      Riggs: Nearly a cat-astrophe, huh?
    • Part of the comedy is Riggs getting confused on whether he's going to cut the red wire or the blue wire. Riggs ultimately cut the wrong wire.note
Riggs: Snip! See? All done. (notices the bomb's timer accelerated) Hey, Rog?
      Murtaugh: Yeah?
      Riggs: GRAB THE CAT!
    • Naturally, the bomb squad shows up right after the building explodes and collapses.
Random police officer: (golf clap) Bravo.
Riggs: (while he and Murtaugh sink back behind the car they hid behind from the explosion) Oops!
      Murtaugh: Right, oops.
    • And the next day, when they're re-assigned to foot patrol, they're still arguing about the wire. Riggs can't even remember which wire he cut.
Murtaugh: Seven days to retirement, I'm busted down to patrolman.
Riggs: I should have cut the red wire.
Murtaugh: You did cut the red wire.
Riggs: No, I didn't, I cut the blue wire.
Murtaugh: That's what I meant. We should have waited for the bomb squad!
Riggs: Am I gonna have to listen to this every day?
Murtaugh: Every day until I retire.
Riggs: Well, that'll be a week too long for me.
Murtaugh: My feet are killing me...
Riggs: Yeah, your feet are killing me, too.
Murtaugh: Well, how could my feet be killing you?
Riggs: 'Cause I gotta listen to you bitch about them all day!
Murtaugh: Yeah, and you're gonna have to listen to me bitch, because you should have cut the red wire!
Riggs: I DID CUT THE RED WIRE!!!
    • As a bonus, The Stinger has the duo answering another bomb threat... and not even leaving the car, given the building explodes on their arrival and so they scram before being blamed for it.
  • The thread about Murtaugh helping Riggs quit smoking:
    • First, he has Riggs chew on dog biscuits, which becomes a Chekhov's Gun when he and Lorna meet the Angry Guard Dog later.
    • Later, he has Riggs eat an onion.
    • At the end of the film, Riggs has gone back to smoking to get over his "dog biscuit problem".note
      Murtaugh: What dog biscuit problem?
Riggs: Well I been chasing more cars lately and uh, y'know, when I try and lick my balls I keep falling off the couch.
  • When that smug Prima Donna Director fires Rianne on the spot, Riggs convinces him to hire her back at a higher salary by smacking him around like a redheaded stepchild, while passing it all off as an attempt to help the director back on his feet.
  • Pretty much anything that has to do with the guard dog that Riggs befriends.
Riggs: We can't shoot a dog. People? Okay, but not dogs.
  • When Murtaugh returns to work after his Heroic BSoD, he asks Riggs to show him some of that martial arts stuff he does, so he demonstrates a roundhouse kick. Murtaugh gets goaded into trying it, but can't get his foot very high, and ends up kicking the water cooler behind him. He grabs the knocked-off water bottle, and is holding it as it empties on the floor when he turns and ends up face-to-face with the LAPD psychologist, who admonishes him for not speaking to her after that incident.
  • Riggs shoots Leo’s front tire out to prevent him from going with the former and Murtaugh, followed by Murtaugh shooting the back tire right after Leo proclaims that he has a spare tire in his trunk.
  • When Riggs says "Maybe I slept with someone that I probably shouldn't have.", Murtaugh throws him overboard. And after he is brought back, Rog slaps him and it's shown he's misunderstanding things:
    Murtaugh: You slept with Rianne.
    Riggs: I did not.
Murtaugh: Who did you sleep with?
Riggs: I slept with Sergeant Cole.
    Murtaugh:Sergeant Cole from Traffic?
Riggs: No, not Sergeant Cole from Traffic. Lorna. Sergeant Cole from Traffic's her uncle.
  • On the more darkly comedic side, Jack Travis's quip to Tyrone about putting their initials on the cement Smitty is being drowned in.
  • After a botched attempt at arresting Travis, Leo gets shot, but it's only a flesh wound. He then proceeds to have a Heroic BSoD pretend as if he really was dying.
  • This is topped by the next scene: Riggs and Murtaugh joke around that he might really die because he was shot with a "dumdum", so they arrange for Leo to have an overnight medical procedure. What type of procedure? A proctology exam.
    • Which later triggers Leo's Once an Episode rant, this time about getting overcharged at the hospital.
Getz: Well, you know what I say? They FUCK you at the hospital! First they DRUG you, then they FUCK you! And when they're done FUCKING you, along comes the insurance company and FUCKS you some more! Ten dollars for a FUCKING aspirin that's not even covered!
