Serious as Inter Nos is, it is not without moments of levity.
- At Shizuru's request, Natsuki gives her a lesson in using the daos. Shizuru nearly brains herself with the "paw" of the weapon, dropping to the ground to evade it at the last second. Shizuru turns to remark to her bodyguard about the skill it must take to wield it as she does, only to realize that Natsuki is holding her fist to her mouth to keep from laughing at her."Oh!" she cried, eyes going wide,"You wicked girl!"
- Nao delightfully teaches Natsuki a word in Himean that she informs her means "rodent". It is actually an invective that is a term for part of the male anatomy. Nao basically tricked Natsuki into casual swearing.
- At one point, Nao remarks that Natsuki is an educated savage. Natsuki responds in perfect Greek, saying, "As a matter of fact, yes."
- While walking through a snow filled garden together, Natsuki surprises Shizuru by starting a snowball fight.
- While laying siege to a town that serves as the hub of Mentulean ironworks, Shizuru counters their attack by getting their foe to dump molten lead right up against the wall, which, as it turns out, is composed of limestone. She then orders jars of vinegar thrown against the heated stone. After the wall collapses, Shizuru explains that she remembered the trick from Hannibal, and that it was something in the vinegar's sourness that makes the trick work. Natsuki innocently asks if that means throwing Nao against the hot wall would have the same effect.
- Shizuru reads Natsuki a letter from Hime about a Senate hearing where Haruka went to town on a Senator who had illegally tapped a water main. Said Senator was also a known pederast, so her righteous indignation went full into Accidental Innuendo territory . The pair can barely suppress their laughter.Haruka: Stop sticking your pipe of yours where it's not allowed! Go find a place where you can pay for it! How would you feel is someone stuck a pipe in your waterworks without telling you, eh? What is someone sucked from it and didn't even have the decency to pay?!
- At one point, Shizuru leaves distinct marks on Natsuki's neck. She suggests Natsuki can blame them on lampreys. When Natsuki learns that lampreys are a type of fish, she balks.Natsuki: No one sensible swims in the winter! I was attacked by a senator.
- Later, Natsuki leaves a hickey on Shizuru, and tries to scrub it off, despite Shizuru being nonchalant about it. Natsuki weakly suggests Shizuru can say it was caused by lampreys.
- When Chikane goes to meet Natsuki for the first time, Shizuru says she will give them privacy, in part because an audience would make Natsuki nervous, but also in part because Shizuru is in the doghouse with Natsuki for not letting her know before arriving in Argus that they'd be meeting Chikane. Shizuru suggests that Chikane might say a word or two in her defense. Chikane takes great delight in reminding her of an incident early in her marriage, where she'd forbade entry to her home to Oogami Souma if she was not home, and that Himeko had accused her of not trusting her, and that Shizuru had sided with Himeko at that point.Chikane: Long have I waited for this day.
