Even though this is, so far, Hilda's most traumatic adventure, it still managed to squeeze in a few jokes. Let's take a look.

Contains unmarked spoilers. You Have Been Warned!

  • Pictured above, after turning back into a human, Hilda awkwardly says hi to Johanna and informs her that she's human again, but, unfortunately, she isn't wearing any clothes and hides behind a rock. You can't help but laugh and go "Aww!" at her adorable coy smile while her cheeks turn pink in embarrassment.
  • After the tense cold open and intro sequence, we cut to Johanna, Alfur, Twig, and Tontu having to deal with Baba causing a mess around the apartment.
  • When Ms. Hallgrim announces that the regular class session has been cancelled for the day, the students proceed to squee with joy, much to the teacher's consternation. Even Frida is mad that class session is cancelled.
  • There is a hilarity to the terrible special effects, inaccurate information, and bad acting of the Safety Patrol video. It is also an Affectionate Parody and Shout-Out to classic monster movie trailers from the early 1950's.
  • When Johanna is found by some Safety Patrol members, she then claims that she is picking berries when they question her to cover that she is looking for Hilda, and proceeds to pick one from a bush next to her. The team leader then proceeds to warn her that the berries she is currently picking are intensely poisonous. Cue Twig yelping and immediately spitting out a berry.
  • Once Johanna and Alfur continue searching for Hilda, Baba then goofily baps Tontu on the nose. Even after this, Tontu comments that Baba is less trouble then Hilda, only for the baby to run out of the apartment and into the street while trying to chase a bug, forcing the Nisse to chase down the changeling as passerby stare in annoyance and confusion. The chase ends when the bug lands on David, causing Baba to tackle the unfortunate boy.
  • While Erik and Gerda go out on patrol, Erik absurdly suggests that the Trolls turn to stone out of cowardice to avoid facing them, when it is obvious that the sun is simply keeping them in stone form. Gerda can only exasperatedly contradict his words.
    • His attempt to continue his speech ends up being interrupted by Cedric, who repeatedly pecks at a crack, much to his annoyance and the hiding Alfur's distress.
  • As soon as Frida and David are filled in by Tontu on Hilda's disappearance and transformation, they prepare to set out to the library... only for a brief complication to emerge:
David: What did I do with my jumper? (David looks at Baba, who opens her mouth to reveal that she has stuffed it into her mouth as she spits it out. David then shudders.) Ugh!
  • As the trolls are having breakfast, Hilda is unsettled to see one of them trying to swallow a still-living Woff whole. Thankfully the Woff is able to escape and fly off, shaken by the experience.
  • After seeing the Trolls eating meat around her, Hilda then asks if they have anything vegetarian that she can eat. One of them hands her a carrot, only for it to turn out that it is sentient.
Carrot: It's okay if you wanna nibble on my leaf.
    (Hilda then reluctantly does so)
  • Once Hilda procures the Troll-mead for Trundle, he then states that he can pull the horns off of a forest giant, something that makes the Troll girl uncomfortable.
  • When Hilda suggests that Trolls need laws or perhaps a leader, Trylla then tells Hilda of the Mountain King's attempt at rallying the trolls into attacking Trolberg and how it lead to a Civil War that ended with the Mountain King's downfall. Hilda's reaction?
  • To cast the body swap spell, organic material from the swappees are needed. Frida manages to find, for some reason, a stick that has some of Hilda's hair on it. And Baba's organic matter? The spit that she drenched David's jumper with.
    • Frida's first attempt at trying the body swap spell doesn't work. David then suggests that she read all the footnotes, which Frida reacts to with an unamused expression.
  • How Frida was able to activate the bucket spell? By getting sick of saying the enchantment and throws down the stick in anger while shouting the spell again. It works.
    Frida: Gifr syn...gifr syn...
    [nothing happens]
Frida: [angry] UGH! I'M SICK OF SAYING GIFR SYN!!! [throws down the stick]
(magical energy ignites in the two buckets and illuminates the room)
  • When Baba manages to open an entrance into the mountain, Erik can only stare, dumbfounded that the baby somehow opened the entrance by saying "Baba."
Erik: (rubbing his chin in confusion) Ba-ba?
  • Hilda's Inadvertent Entrance Cue towards the climax of the film. Just as Johanna demands that Erik finds her daughter, Hilda happens to run for her life out of the cave entrance that Erik and Johanna are arriving at, much to everyone's surprise.
  • Once Johanna disarms Ahlberg, she is briefly startled by Trylla roaring at the captain of the Safety Patrol, mistakenly pointing the torch at the troll mother before quickly realizing what she is doing and proceeding to discard the weapon while sheepishly smiling.
  • After Johanna learns that Hilda needed clothes again after turning back to human, she suggests that Baba can take hers off since she's a Troll again. Cue Baba ''ripping'' the clothes to pieces, to Johanna's disgust.
  • Once the group pursues Trundle back to Trolberg, Erik spends the entire trip stuck in the grip of Trylla's right hand.
  • When Ahlberg proceeds to insist that Trolberg's walls won't be breached by Trundle, everyone can only exasperatedly glance at him, well aware that he is tempting fate, before Trundle wrecks it.
    Tontu: (exasperated) Don't say it.
  • While Johanna and Hilda's reunion was both tearjerking and heartwarming, Hilda's reunion with Frida and David was...awkward. The reunion involves Frida grabbing Hilda's arm out of nowhere and yanking her away, and David rattles off the typical side-effects of being an adventurer.
