• Edna is despondent that nobody's interested in signing her. Her demo producer is sympathetic.
  Edna: And now I've been pounding the pavement ever since, only to be told that you just already have someone like me.
  Demo Producer: You want me to, uh, really burst your bubble?
  Edna: [smiling through her tears] Oh sure, go ahead, you know. Start bursting.
  Demo Producer: Well, not only do we all already have someone like you, but we all are trying to get rid of the someones like you we already have.
• The male engineer hitting on Marion while Kelly is actually recording Denise and Cheryl's song about Kelly and Marion's secret love affair. Timing, dude.
  Engineer: What do you say we go and get a drink after the session? I know a real nice place.
  Marion: [blank stare] ...No, thank you. No.
• In the studio, recording her album, Denise keeps up a little muttered monologue to dead Jay.
  Joel: [in the control room] Whoa, what was that? Who you talkin' to, huh?
  Denise: [slightly embarrassed] Joel, I'm talking to Jay 'cause I need his help on the EQs.
  Joel: As long as it's work-related, you can talk to dead guys.
