• The lawnmower incident. With his keys confiscated by his wife, and determined to keep his buzz going, Jones hopped on his riding mower and rode to the liquor store. This was given a Shout-Out in Vince Gill's "One More Last Chance": "She mighta took my car keys, but she forgot about my ol' John Deere." As described in his memoir:
  "There, gleaming in the glow, was that ten-horsepower rotary engine under a seat. A key glistening in the ignition. I imagine the top speed for that old mower was five miles per hour. It might have taken an hour and a half or more for me to get to the liquor store, but get there I did.
  • When his wife took the keys even to the mower, George took a horse down to the bar. And got so hammered, he couldn't ride it back.
    • Becomes even funnier, as George Jones seemed to enjoy making fun of himself, as he parodied this incident for three different music videos.
