  • Any of the potshots taken at the show ER and its cast—Dr. Shutt being constantly told he looks like George Clooney, and confusedly replying, "I don't know who that is."
  • The promotional video a corporate executive made for the hospital that was a straight ripoff of the ER opening credits, complete with ethereal music, a giant CH logo appearing on the screen repeatedly—and the title of the hospital being displayed in lower case letters, just as ER's was—and all of the cast members replicating the poses from the then-current ER opening credits. After the video was over, one member of the rather unimpressed staff said "Hmmm. Looks familiar."
  • The final episode of the fifth season. The show needed an overhaul due to some serious Seasonal Rot so they chose to take the tactic of openly calling out real-life criticisms of the show as justification for firing Dr. Austin and most of the other main characters, having Dr. Geiger comment on some of the dumber aspects fans didn't like, such as criticizing Dr. Shutt for his mid-life career change "What's this I hear about you trying to play psychiatrist? You're a neurosurgeon!" and having characters point out on screen that Dr. Yeats (the fifth-season scrappy who was supposed to be a game-changer, played by Eric Stoltz) is "so sensitive we can all vomit" and that "Lisa Catera" sounds like a car commercial.
