Funny / Beau Is Afraid

Warning, all "Moments" subpages have spoilers off!

It's telling that a lot of these moments are also listed in Nightmare Fuel - because that's the kind of movie this is.
  • The tattooed man's introduction shows him being given soup. He takes a sip of his soup, shouts "IT'S HOT!!!" and tosses it to the ground in anger.
  • The introduction of Birthday Boy Stab Man, a knife-wielding streaker who is at large as of the events of the film.
Newsreport: Police describe him as a circumcised white male-
  • The keys to Beau's apartment get stolen. He asks a man walking down the hallway what happened only for the guy to respond:
    Neighbor: You're fucked, pal.
    • Of additional note is that this sequence appeared in the original 2011 short version of the film — with the hostile neighbor being played by Ari Aster himself.
  • When Beau goes to buy water from the convenient store, he notices one guy heading towards his apartment. It seems tense and serious...but then the entire street starts heading towards the apartment.
  • Beau comes back after spending a night outside to find his apartment completely vandalized by the hobos. When he closes the door behind him it reveals a paper attached to it warning the tenants that there's running water in the building again (the lack of water being the whole reason Beau left the building in the first place).
  • When Beau wakes up in Grace and Roger's house.
Grace: I hit you with my car.
    Beau: WHAT?!
    Grace: [smiling] I know.
  • When Elaine dies after having sex with Beau we see a closeup of her face frozen mid-orgasm, smiling, with bloodshot eyes, while a friggin' Mariah Carey song is playing in the background.
  • The suspenseful setup of the scene where Beau goes into the attic initially seems like it'll resemble the straightforwardly horrific attic scene in a previous movie of Aster's—until the big reveal is that the attic contains a giant penis monster, swinging the scene immediately into disturbingly deranged comedy.
