Cutscenes

  • File 03: Link has a few much-needed ones after the end of the last file:
    • Marie/Lappy's introduction has the protagonist just stare at this the whole time, to the point where you'd think that even if they did talk regularly, they'd be stunned speechless.
    • Most every scene with Marie inside the Lappy suit, but especially her tour of Neuron HQ where she constantly jumpscares you via Offscreen Teleportation. Amusingly justified, as she's using the same "Lappy's Secret Shortcut" mechanic that she tells the protagonist about.
    • Then you meet with Marie in the garage, and the door behind her is wide open, giving you a good view of the Lappy costume on the ground. One wonders if Marie was so overtaken by Cuteness Proximity from the stray in her arms that she completely forgot to shut that door.
    • Really, Marie's abysmal attempts to keep up The Masquerade about Lappy, and her reaction to the player's lack thereof when she reveals the truth in File 05.
    • While meeting Marie face-to-face, Akira chastises Marie for bringing a cat into Neuron HQ (because stray animals can carry Red Matter that can induce redshift, and thus are not allowed in Neuron) and snatches it away, leaving Marie dejected (and wondering what she's gonna do with all the cat food she bought). When you meet with Akira on the heliport to begin the mission proper, they're mumbling to themselves about something, then states that there are no cats here, no sir! Later, when you and Akira descend down to Maison Forest, it's revealed that Akira had brought the cat with them in the helicopter—by it jumping out of Akira's jacket and scurrying away (toward the location mentioned below). Akira can only look on, torn between the mission and the cat's safety, while the protagonist gives them an Aside Glance. Shame on you, Officer!
    • In the end of the mission, it turns out that Akira was bringing the cat to Max's cat safehouse, which they'd promised Max to keep as a secret, even from you. Seems becoming part of Neuron hasn't made them behave completely professionally yet.
    • Marie manages to overhear this information through Akira's radio, to Akira's shock. Guess being bad at keeping secrets is slightly infectious...
  • Kyle's definitely human: after his boss fight, viewing him through IRIS reveals his full name, date of birth, and other details, just like everyone else; and if you take a photo of him now, he shows up in the character database like a regular person. But during his fight, he gets an IRIS callout, just like when a new Chimera appears. It's as if the computers aren't quite if he's chimera or human, given his power. A low-key awesome moment too.

Gameplay

  • In the beginning of File 04, the game forcibly prevents you from jaywalking, so you have to either use the pedestrian overpasses, or wait for the light to change at the pedestrian crossings. During an emergency situation later, civilian traffic is suspended, and the player can now sprint through the crosswalks without restraint. Do this too early, however, and you run the risk of getting run over by the squad cars also rushing into the scene. You don't actually take damage from this, but it's humorously ironic nonetheless.
  • In File 05, one of the optional cases has you dressing as Lappy in Marie's place (as she's hurt her ankle) in order to provide a morale boost throughout Neuron. One of the people who needs cheering up is Jin, and as it turns out the best way to get him back in good spirits after what happened previously is to spar with him. While you're still in the Lappy suit. You can't use your Legion because it would obviously expose your identity, so you just use your trusty police weapons to fight, but nonetheless it creates the hilarious imagery of a police mascot matching one of Neuron's most adept officers! And all the while he completely believes that it's Marie in the suit!
  • When digging up common piles of junk, the Beast Legion has a high chance of turning up cat food. While there are gameplay reasons for this, it really just seems like no matter what anyone says about how Legions don't eat and how the Beast Legion in particular doesn't "smell stuff out" in the normal sense, it's still just a big dog that will home in on any can of pet food in a fifty-meter radius. Pet food meant for cats, at that.
  • The Camera has a Selfie mode. Which you are free to use even as that giant chimera that's right behind you is about to flatten you watch out
    • You can also hand the Camera off to your active Legion to get a better shot of yourself. You have to wonder what's going through the enslaved once-Chimera's head at being used for this.
    • You need to take photos of chimeras and other enemies for 100% Completion. Which means that to fellow officers, a completionist-controlled Legionis probably looks like they care more about good pictures of chimeras and aberrations than doing their job.
  • One of the things you can find and use in every File is a toilet, from which you get toilet paper items that range from "normal" to "for desparate times" (sandpaper) to "why would you use something this expensive to...y'know what, never mind" (optical camo paper).
    • And even stranger, there's a toilet faerie. In the Neuron HQ restrooms. And you turn in all of those toilet paper items to them, so that they can bless the one stall they're using the whole game. (Apparently this is based on Japanese folklore, so Bel's presence isn't so far-fetched...)
    • The File 01 toilet in particular? It's just laying sideways on the highway, past a divider. How you manage to relieve yourself in thatnote  is anyone's guess.
    • File 06: "Complicit" doesn't have a toilet stall for its corresponding toilet paper. It has an overhead view from the vents, of an unfortunate Hermit on a toilet, who seems to have spent the last three hours dealing with the unfortunate after-effects of Sweet Peach Soup. Hal is aghast that you're violating his privacy like this.
  • File 10 has the blue case "Olive's Admirer", in which you help a man with his crush on Olive by suggesting a present to get to woo her. One of five available options is a stylish bag, going with which works well except for Olive revealing she isn't looking for a boyfriend in the first place, and another is ice cream, which melts by the time the suitor arrives so he tries to save face by claiming that him delivering the molten ice cream symbolizes his devotion, to which Olive says that at least the thought counts but rejects the gift. There are three options funnier than that though:
    • Lovely flowers - one man says that there's no better way to a woman's heart than giving her a bouquet and saying she's just as beautiful as the flowers. The problem is that you're in Zone 09, where even the plantlife sucks, so all the suitor finds is weeds. Olive is understanding about that at first, but then – in an uniquely stupid Analogy Backfire – the lovestruck man still says the "as beautiful as these flowers" part and thus gets rejected more harshly.
    • A caterpillar, first of two real Gift-Giving Gaffes - suggested by a man who, by his own admission, knows more about insects than style. He suggests giving a caterpillar, partially because he thinks anyone would appreciate one, partially since they turn into butterflies, and also says that he gave one to a girl before, getting a big reaction out of her but making her not talk to him ever since. Olive's far from thrilled by caterpillars either, making her scream at the admirer and ask what the hell is wrong with him.
    • Diet drinks, suggested by Hal. The description on the notebook entry implies that Olive would take some from a friend, but not from the suitor, whom she shoots down hard over the obvious implication.
  • There are six Lappy-related items you can find by doing his (Marie's) cases throughout the game. In File 12, obtaining all six items unlocks the "Deskwork...?" case. The mission involves your character in a Lappy suit, beating up angry civilians and other enemies while cheery music plays. For the last stretch of the case, you go into the Astral Plane to fight Chimeras. While still in the Lappy suit. While the cute music is still playing. This also unlocks the Lappy suit for your character to wear.
    • During the first section of File 08: "Peace", you'll probably find Lappy running around with balloons. Running faster than you can, in fact, so you'd have to mount the Beast Legion just to talk to him and get his blue case for the file. Who knew that Marie (probably) can outrun even the Parnassus artists?
      • On that note, the amount and kinds of details covered in Lappy's quiz. Like who weighs the least of three different Neuron personnel, the name of the ice-cream stall in Harmony Square, and the cell your were in after your arrest!
    • The first five Lappy-related items can be obtained by doing well in Marie's cases. The last item? You get from Brenda in File 12. Correction: you buy it from Brenda. For the obscene amount of 100,000 G. One could wonder if she didn't think anyone at Neuron would pay that kind of cash for a piece of her collection, or if she's going to use that income to get more Lappy memorabilia...
  • Exploiting jump combos with your Legion during the first File 9 fight with Jena can result in both the player and her escaping the helipad, potentially allowing them to continue their battle in Neuron HQ.
  • In File 06, there's a merchant who can serve you bowls of congee. When you eat one, you're treated to a cutscene of yourself finishing it off before slamming it back down onto the table.
