Funny / A Bride's Story

Go To

  • In chapter two, the Carpenter carves Rostem a good-luck charm with a pictograph of a goat on it. When he brings it home, his siblings get insanely jealous... so their parents ask the Carpenter to make them all one. And what does Tileke ask for?
  • In chapter four, Karluk gets a cold, sending Amira into a panic. After everyone finally gets her to stop worrying herself sick, Karluk's fever finally breaks. The next day, as he goes back to the stables to work, he sneezes. Cue the sound of running feet...
  • In chapter fifteen, after Mr. Smith gets arrested thanks to a certain xenophobe's false accusation, and the guards have trouble believing that Mr. Smith is just a scholar. So the city guards look through his things, including his notebooks, which are obviously not what they were made to expect, even though one of them understands English.
Guard One: Embroidery, cooking... Nothing important here.
Guard Two: Maybe some kind of code?
Guard One: We're stuck if it's a code.
    ...
Guard: [to the Head Guard] There's no need for further investigation. Who, besides a researcher, would write so much? Let's just close the case.
  • After Ali bails Smith out of the prison, in chapter fifteen, he gleefully abuses Sacred Hospitality to swindle a pair of camels and a large amount of supplies from the city guards, plus the head guard's hat just to be petty. In the next chapter, he also has the food bill sent to the guards.
  • In chapter 25, during the wedding, when Saahman and Farsahmi happen upon each other while getting food for their respective brides-to-be.
    "Fry cakes?"
    "Fry cakes."
    • And in the next chapter:
      "Veto on the tigers."
  • Anis has a fluffy Persian cat that acts incredibly disgruntled every time she tries to cuddle it.
    • And when she's too distracted to play with it, it tries to get her attention only to walk away in a huff when she doesn't notice its efforts.
  • Chapter 38 shows just how little Henry Smith can see without his Opaque Nerd Glasses. He answers Ali, only... he's facing a pillar.
  • On one of the bonus chapters, out of boredom Joruk jokingly tells Azel that he's seen a wolf. In reaction, Azel takes several men of the village out to hunt for the beast, as a nomadic tribe needs to take a threat to their livestock very seriously. Joruk was already in jitters at being caught having lied about it, when they found that there was indeed a whole pack of wolves that had already taken one of the sheep. Joruk's reaction upon seeing the carnage? He shouts "WHAT A RELIEF!", earning him a couple of glares.
  • In chapter 73, Mr. Hawking is instructing Mr. Smith on how to make developing solution, with Ali trying to understand as much of it as possible. Mr. Hawking evidently does not know any form of Arabic, Farsi, or Turkic and is speaking in English, while the reverse is true of Ali. Mr. Hawking's explanation of the developing solution ends with him handing them a pre-made bottle, leading to this exchange:
Ali: [in Turkic] Hey, if you had some ready to go, why couldn't you just give us that one?
Hawking: [in English] You've got to be able to replenish your own stock and measure for your needs! If you don't know how to mix it, how do you expect to manage that?
Smith: [after watching the two, to Hawking] Er, pardon me, but... You understand him?
    Hawking: Not a word.
  • In chapter 75, on hearing that Niklovski and Ali both insist on traveling by foot:
Hawking: Do they shoe the men with iron here, too?
Smith: One is given to wonder.
  • The whole of chapter 76. Not Hyperbole: the whole chapter is structured in an almost gag-a-panel way to build up upon the same joke of the tales that the successive new owners of the watch Smith threw away many episodes ago tell each other about the origin of the watch; each retelling growing more hilariously over-the-top.
