Fridge Briliance
The three bunkers represent the three levels of the afterlife
- Mt Genesis - modern, adequately equipped habitat for humanity's best and brightest - heaven.
- Slough bunker - insufficiently stocked old bomb shelter; holds innocents, psychopaths and everything in between - purgatory.
- Survivalist basement - an ill-equipped hole in the ground; houses greedy traitors - hell.
The characters are modeled after the Biblical dynasty
- lady Sutton is Noah. Built an ark for family.
- Jude is Abraham. Sired a big family with two women, one out of wedlock and one in marriage.
- Mary is Hagara. The mistress.
- Celine is Sarah. The wife.
- Jamie is Moses. Abandoned as a child, adopted, parted the waters for his people to pass to the promised land, left outside it.
- Paula is the Egyptian queen. Adoptive mother.
- Ariel is the Pharaoh. Jealous brother.
- Rhonda is Naomi. widow, wanderer, befriends a stranger.
- Leanne is Ruth. follows her friend to her homeland, becomes part of her family.
- Scotty is Solomon. Designed the 'temple'
- Gaines is David. Short man, military leader, killed Goliath with a single shot to the forehead.
- President is Goliath. Tall man, commander of a great army, philistine.
Shown Their Work
Every term the lawyer asks Rhonda is a genuine hacking term.
- A black hat is a malicious hacker, like Ariel. A white hat would be one who looks for holes in order to plug them. Spike is a gray hat.
- An SQL inject is a deliberately botched request to a database designed to crash a legitimate function of the program and replace it with other code.
- A rootkit is software made to access unauthorized parts of a system: network, computer or folder.
- Power Point is a program for making and viewing slideshows.
Every badge, bar and ribbon on Gaines' uniform is legit, you can practically infer his career from it, and it makes perfect sense.
- What he has:
- Two stars of a Major General on the shoulders.
- Combat rifleman badge and unit badge, above either breast pocket.
- Three overseas combat service bars on the sleeve.
- One unit commendation ribbon under the unit badge; plus ribbons for individual achievements: army service, overseas service, global war on terror service, army commendation, army achievement, Afghanistan campaign, Iraq campaign, and half a dozen department-level and federal-level army and inter-service commendations.
- What it means - he's served in Afghanistan and Iraq, overseas, as part of the the army, for three years of active combat, in the global war on terror, has received a ton of individual commendations and been part of a commended unit.
- Timeline:
- Math: Spike is in his late teens. Rhonda had him when in her late teens so she's mid thirties, as is Scotty. Gaines can't be over forty. He's an officer, so he couldn't have started his career before finishing academy around twenty. That means he graduated little over 15 years ago, around 2000.
- Bio: Gaines graduates in 2000-01, participates in one or two war games and bam - 9/11. He's deployed to Afghanistan where he gets 3 years of active overseas combat service as an infantry rifleman, impresses the shit out of his superiors, and gets a ton of awards and promotions. Come Iraq, Gaines is off the battle field, deciding strategy with other senior officers, of all levels, including other branches. He gets even more promotions and awards, finally finishing with a desk job state-sides and the highest rank a peacetime officer can hold.
Mt Gensis would work.
- You need a closed system with a source of energy - a geothermal-powered garden to recylce waste and CO2 into food, water and 02.
- You need people with diverse high-level education and above average IQ to cover all the needs and fix problems as they come up.
- You need as much wombs as possible to repopulate the planet - all women.
- You need the DNA of 10 000 individuals to ward off terminal inbreeding - a sperm bank.
- You need physically and mentally healthy people for the best odds.
- You need a seed bank to Terraform the dead planet.
- You need a backup of Wikipedia, the patent office and the congressional library to preserve knowledge. Once you've got all that, you're set.
Fridge Horror
- During the show's final moments, the door to the bunker gets damaged and Rajesh closes it from the outside by driving a truck into it. Unless he had the idea to drive in reverse afterwards which has not been shown or implied, that also means that while the bunker's occupants are safe for the time being, they or their eventual descendants if there are any (after all, there are some people who are not related in there) will never be able to leave the bunker, seeing as the truck remained pressed against the door, blocking the only way out.
