  • When the Vampire Counts make an alliance with the Empire and Bretonnia against Chaos, readers were most likely confused and angered by the extremely unlikely nature of this pairing. But there is some logic behind it if you stop to think about it: As corrupting and malignant the powers of Chaos are, seemingly able to break and defy the laws of physics and time at a whim, there is at least one law that they respect and obey: the Cycle of Life and Death. Because of this, necromancy is an abomination to Chaos as it breaks the cycle of Life and Death with what is considered an impure state of immortality. And as a result, the Vampire Counts are forced to swallow their pride and help the human nations because they know for sure that if they're defeated, they will be the next ones to be annihilated by Chaos. Likewise, Neferata and Khalida, despite having a huge list of longstanding grievances, chose to set aside their differences and commit their undead armies to protecting the last living beings for as long as possible. So the fact that Chaos respects and obeys the cycle of Life and Death and the undead will protect the mortals that they depend on goes to show that Even Evil Has Standards.
