Fridge / Victor Frankenstein

Fridge Brilliance:

  • The "Wanted!" Poster that Turpin has put up all over the city contains a small fine print hidden among the larger REWARD message, stating that the £50 reward is payable upon conviction. The large print states that the two are wanted for murder, yet Turpin said himself that if they did find the two, the most they could charge them with would be manslaughter in self-defence, not murder. They would then not be convicted for murder, so the reward need not ever be paid.
  • Upon hearing the full story of Henry, Victor's reaction to "Igor"'s request for the watch, followed by his statement that he<Victor> will have caused a death take on a whole new light.
  • Igor is essentially the main character of the film, and is even played by a more famous actor than Victor Frankenstein. So why is the film named for Victor? Because monster films are always named for the monster, rather than the protagonist.
  • Given how events play out, the film can easily be seen as a "prequel" to the more familiar narrative; Igor helps Victor refine his process to create life, and after Victor's initial externally-funded experiments result in the creation of a lumbering brute that he and Igor have to kill, he is able to conduct a more independent experiment on his own that creates the more articulate monster the audience is more familiar with.
