Fridge Brilliance

  • When the cast use non-elemental magic, the animation shows them using dark magic. But when Kalim, Rook, and Silver use them, the animation instead has them use light magic. This makes sense when you remember that the characters they are twisted from aren't exactly villains back in the source material they came from, in contrast to the rest of the cast who are twisted from Disney villains.
  • With each chapter's boss fight being an Overblot version of the dorm leaders, some people would think that Kalim would end up in this state. Instead, Jamil's the one the players have to fight, which can confuse people since he's a vice-leader. Then you realise that it actually does make sense because so far every Overblot victim outside of the prologue are Twisted from Disney Villains, and Jamil fits that pattern instead of Kalim because Jamil's Twisted from Jafar (who's the basis of the Scarabia dorm to begin with) and Kalim from the Sultan.
  • The prominence of Mickey Mouse in the plot seems a bit confusing at first... until you look closely at how a certain other plot mechanic is named. Specifically, the condition that causes magic users to go into One-Winged Angel mode is called Overblot. Now, what's the name of one of Mickey's most famous antagonists? The Phantom Blot!
    • When looking at the name of the Headmage "Dire Crowley", the number of letters and spacing is equivalent to the name of "Phantom Blot". Also, when you take the first and last two letters (Di-ey), it can form Disney.
    • In Kalim's personal story ( SSR Dorm uniform ), Dire Crowley is invited to come and eat in Scarabia. In this celebration, Kalim prepares a parade of animals including 7 parrots, each of which has a color (which could represent the dormitories and overall a rainbow). But these birds have escaped. As he didn't want to ruin the show, he decided to look for white parrots at Diasomnia and activated his unique magic to reflect the color back to these birds, creating a rainbow that Crowley seems happy to see. Who wanted to change his colors to a rainbow in an episode of a certain show? Phantom Blot!
  • Kalim's favorite food, coconut water, has been used in real world history as a way to counteract poisons or test for drug overdose. Additionally, Kalim has a talent for identifying poison, possibly indicating one reason for its being his favourite. Kalim's least favorite food is curry... because Jamil was once poisoned into a two-week coma after taste-testing curry intended for Kalim.
  • The design and purpose of Ortho are very similar to the character Astro Boy. Also, it is not surprising that Ruggie talks with Ortho about a manga about treasure in the second event of Halloween, it is a reference and homage to the first work of Osamu Tezuka, New Treasure Island, which has contributed as a major point in the middle of the modern manga. The most surprising is that this work was inspired by the comic "Mickey Mouse Outwits the Phantom Blot" in the first boxes of the manga [1].
  • Unlike the rest of the students, Ortho's different outfits are simply called gears (e.g. Stargazer Gear, Sports Gear, etc.). As Ortho is a robot unlike the rest of the cast, it makes sense that his outfits are referred to as gears.
    • Ortho not having a school uniform equivalent until the end of Chapter 6 makes sense when you recall that up until then, Ortho had been an unofficial student and is in a 2-in-1 student arrangement with his brother Idia. As he's not officially a student and his position in the school being different to that of Yuu and Grim (due to Yuu being human but is an Unsorcerer while Grim could use magic), Ortho didn't get to attend classes like a regular student until the proper arrangements are made.
  • In Late December 2020, the login campaign for Christmas holidays are referred to as "Winter Holiday" instead of "Christmas" like most games. It's established in Chapter 4 that many of the students returned back home for the holiday. Additionally, there is no Christmas event either. Why would the students celebrate Christmas with the players if they're already celebrating it back home with their families? Since most of the students had gotten back home already, there's no one to organize a big Christmas event with either way.
    • In addition to the above giving practical reason to (currently) exclude Christmas/Winter Holiday events, it also further emphasizes how "Twisted Wonderland" is a game revolving around characters and aesthetics based on villains. It can also explain why Halloween is given much more reverence given it's history of (among other things) being associated with all things spooky and dark, the exact opposite of Christmas.
  • Leona overblotting despite not using his magic throughout the majority of the Savanaclaw chapter might seem weird, considering the fact that Overblot happens due to a mixture of stress, negative emotions and magic overuse. However, if you consider that Leona had been treated as Always Second Best no matter what he does back home, and then his devastating defeat under Malleus's hand, Leona's reason for overblotting makes sense, as it's high likely, a cumulation of years of dealing with the depression of being seen Always Second Best, with his plan being thwarted being the tip of the iceberg that finally made him snap.
    • During the Vargas Camp event, Vargas mentions that if there is no magical pen or staff, then the blot will accumulate into the user's body. This means that Leona never had his magic pen or staff to withhold all the accumulated blot for most of the time throughout the Savanaclaw chapter, in addition the above.
  • The May 2021 event Happy Beans Day ~Lyre-less Brawl~, serves as a side story from last year's event Happy Beans Day ~Reclaim the Golden Harp!~ instead of a sequel like most games that take place a year later. It makes sense, since the Main Story of the game hasn't reached the conclusion yet. If the event does serve as a sequel, the third year students (Trey, Cater, Leona, Vil, Rook, Idia, Malleus and Lilia) won't be able to participate in said sport competition since they would be fourth year students by that point, and they would be off campus to train their magic or do their internships. This competition is only for first, second, and third year students.
  • While it was the primary reason and was indeed needed thanks to Malleus, tracking down lost guests was probably not the only reason Jamil had GPS chips sewn into everyone's outfits during the fireworks event. As he and Kalim mentioned earlier the fabric of the clothing everyone was borrowing was extremely expensive and just a bandana alone costed at least tens of thousands of madols. Jamil probably wanted to make sure no one lost or even stole anything.
  • Unlike other Joseimuke games, Twisted Wonderland notably lacks a valentines related event or white day related ones. Considering the casts own stance with romance back in "Ghost Marriage" in the respective Personal stories of those with "Ghost Marriage" cards, and No Hugging, No Kissing in play, this makes sense. At the end of the day, the cast of Twisted Wonderland are still students. They should be focusing on their studies instead of chasing after romance.
  • Floyd's constant usage of childish Deadly Euphemism actually makes sense if one subscribes to the theory that he and Jade are mobsters as this is a way to create Plausible Deniability regarding orders or intentions. Actually, and crossing into Fridge Horror, depending on how high up in the ranks the twins are those euphemisms might actually have been orders they were given to carry out at some point.
  • The Octavinelle trio mention multiple times in Chapter 3 that the students who made contracts with them have no right to refuse any orders given to them, nor do they even have any say on how the trio abuses them. While this brings to mind how Ursula imprisoned those that couldn't uphold their contracts, it also subtly alludes to how she used one such contract to take away Ariel's voice. Helps that some saw that as Ursula taking away a part of Ariel's autonomy, something that Azul was trying to do completely with his victims.
  • In the "Harveston’s Kelkkarotu" event, neither Dominic, Gran, and Snick, nor Yuu and Grim don’t remember each other from Chapter 5 of the main story. It makes sense it either took place before they made a proper introduction in Chapter 5, they only met each other once, or it confirms the Event story is not related to the Main Story and is considered non-canon.
  • In Chapter 6, it’s revealed that Idia is the heir and interim leader of STYX, an organization dedicated to capturing and studying overblots. How, then, have five students managed to overblot before any action is taken at Night Raven College? Because Idia is a shut-in, and so focused on his online life that he has no idea anything is happening in the other dorms until Grim goes off the rails.
  • As we see by the end of Chapter 6, anyone who dared to go past the gates of the underworld risk their magic energy and vitality, making them look more older the longer they stay there, which ties from the river from the original film Hercules, in which inspired the dorm Ignihyde. With that in mind, it's no wonder that Vil would end up getting old age, given that's what happened to the queen who he was twisted from.
    • On that note, at that part of the film, sacrificing his life for Megara was what made Hercules a true god (or hero, if you prefer) because of his Heroic Sacrifice. Now, what was Vil's reason to be the 'most fairest of them all' again? to finally play the role of a hero (so that he could remain on stage from the beginning to the end).
  • In contrast to the other overblot victims, the Guardian Entity for Idia's overblotted form was Ortho, rather than his own repressed negative emotions given form. When you learn of Idia's past, this starts to makes sense. Idia has 8 years worth of long guilt over the original Ortho's death and hence why his Guardian Entity is Ortho, since he is the reason for Idia's pessimism and negative view of the world.
  • Over the course of the game's story, the history of Twisted Wonderland come across as fragmented and twisted, with many differing narratives for the same events, such as Jafar being seen as a hero for exposing Aladdin's Prince Ali disguise or Aladdin's story of how he fell in love with Jasmine removing any direct mention of Jafar. In "Glorious Masquerade", when Rollo and Trein are discussing of the tale of how the Righteous Judge (Frollo) and his student, the Kind Bellringer (Quasimodo) saved the City of Flowers in the past, they don't elaborate what actually befell the city. This implies that there are no clear records or clues found that elaborated the events that occurred at the time, so people can only make do with what they learn and manage to find, sharing their interpretations of the events. Because the records and/or archives regarding the true course of events are lost, the understanding and interpretation of the original Disney movies changed and got twisted as a result. The original events as depicted in the Disney movies themselves are completely changed as there's nobody to Keep Circulating the Tapes of the true story In-Universe.
  • In the Manga, there's the Savannaclaw chapter Yuu being a cross dresser. Realistically, for any female version of Yuu to be able to attend an all-male academy without their gender being mentioned or an issue, as it never is in the original game, they would have to cross dress and be virtually indistinguishable from a male student, which is why Yuuka, the Yuu for this chapter, is presented in this way.
  • The reveal that Silver is actually twisted from Princess Aurora was actually foreshadowed in the designs of the other main residents of Diasomnia. Lilia has pink highlights in his hair, Sebek has green hair, and Malleus has blue-black hair — matching the signature colors of Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather, the good fairies who took care of Aurora in the original movie.

Fridge Horror

  • Riddle is one of the shortest characters in the cast, and his height is clearly a sore spot for him. It's Played for Laughs for the most part...but looking into it, there may be a rather disturbing reason he's as short as he is. In the flashback we get to his past, it's shown that his mother limited his caloric intake to less than 600 calories per day, which is way below the healthy amount of calories he should be ingesting at that age (around 1,600 for moderately active boys). Additionally, it's known that malnutrition in childhood can lead to several different health problems, including stunted growth. In other words, Riddle's only as short as he is because his mother starved him.
    • This could also explain Riddle's status as a Squishy Wizard since he could have suffered deficiencies in his muscles due to this.
    • What's even more jarring about this is that the woman is supposed to be a doctor and therefore should be well aware of what kind of damage she'd be doing to her own kid. Or worse, maybe her medical knowledge allows her to know just how much she could get away with starving or hurting Riddle before life-threatening problems kick in, and even her magic could have helped to cover up things like corporal punishment...
    • While emphasis has been placed primarily on his mother, it's worth noting that Riddle's dad (who is also a healer) is also complacent since he (supposedly) never did anything to stop the abuse and is implied to be an example of Parental Neglect.
  • At the end of the "Ghost Bride" event, when going off on her honeymoon Princess Eliza cheerfully declares that she's planning on becoming a mother to a cute baby by the next year. Given that she kidnapped a clearly unwilling Idia with intention to marry him by force without any regards to his wishes, attacked everyone who tried to stop her, and has a major case of Never My Fault it's not hard to imagine what Eliza could have done to him had the wedding not been halted on top of Idia being turned into a ghost.
  • Contrary to what was believed of them beforehand the Octavinelle trio reveal they are actually not True Companions and Jade and Floyd admitted that they would not hesitate to drop Azul if he ever becomes too boring for their liking. Now, remember that it is all but explicitly stated that the twins are involved with the mob and it is highly likely that they inducted Azul into their ranks in some capacity. Fridge Horror of what that in and of itself can imply, but organized crime is typically not a profession that one can expect to walk out of easily or even be allowed to leave without dire consequences. In the worse case scenario, Jade and Floyd could potentially consider having Azul killed if he no longer is worth while to them, especially if he has intimate knowledge of the twins' "family business". And to top it off, octopus is one of the favorite foods of moray eels, and BOTH of the twins' favorite dishes feature octopus as the main ingredient!
    • There's that one time Jade admitted to keeping different plants in his room simply so he can choose which ones live and which ones die, and Floyd is already shown to have quite the violent streak and has at least once severely beaten up a student who went back on a contract. And both have displayed clear signs of sadism, especially when it comes to people on the other end of the contracts or anyone they feel had wronged them. The twins have what it takes to be remorseless killers, and if they haven't already them killing someone in the future is a high possibility.
  • As of now it has been quite a few months since Yuu has been whisked away and trapped inside the world of Twisted Wonderland, and they are not exactly expected to be returning home anytime soon. Yuu themselves seems to be handling the circumstances with far more grace than many in their position might, but what about their family and friends that were left behind in their original world? Unless time works differently between the two worlds or there are special circumstances not yet revealed, one could only imagine how worried sick they must be if Yuu suddenly went missing without a trace with absolutely no possible way of being able to track them down. For all they know, Yuu is either dead or facing a Fate Worse than Death.
  • As admitted by Crowley, magicians are actually viewed as superior beings in comparison to those not born with magical abilities, and many of the Night Raven students exemplify this with their Smug Super attitudes and occasional insults in Yuu's direction. And everyone who has managed to gain major fame and success so far within the game has also been a magician. While magicians and magicless humans most likely coincide peacefully, how much of a general imbalance is there between the two groups and what kind of consequences have become of it?
  • Besides the obvious parallels to cat behavior, if one takes a look at Leona a lot of his habits line up pretty closely to signs of clinical depression. Heavy fatigue that results in an excess need for sleep, increased crankiness and irritability, constant trouble with concentration (notably during class), lack of drive or motivation, and overall pessimism and hopelessness when it comes to the future. In addition, the sin that Leona represents, Sloth, is not only based on being lazy but is sometimes associated with falling too deeply into despair. And given the effects that Leona's upbringing had on him, the circumstances do seem to fit.
  • Another Leona-related example revolves around the capabilities of his unique magic, "The King's Roar". While for the most part it is an ability based on Dishing Out Dirt and Sand Blaster, Leona is able to turn anything, including people, into nothing more than dust. Meaning that if Leona ever felt nasty enough he'd have a pretty decent way of getting rid of someone with little to no evidence pointing to him, not helping that in one personal story Leona actually tried talking Jamil into letting him assassinate Kalim. While it doesn't excuse how he was raised and the ability does have good uses (Chapter 3...), it is a little understandable why the subjects in the palace became leery of what Leona could potentially do.
    • And then there is whether or not a dusted person would simply die or be trapped in an And I Must Scream situation...
  • Kalim's fingernails are noticeably whiter compared to Jamil's. White fingernails are indicative of any or a combination of the conditions including anemia, overuse of nail polish, weak nails, kidney disease, heart disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and liver disease. Does Kalim have an underlying condition we don't know about?
    • It doesn't help that Kalim has been poisoned countless times in his life. He might have survived and have access to good doctors, but his immune system and organs still could have suffered long term damages.
    • Coconut water (Kalim's favorite beverage as well as something he clings onto for survival) has been used as intravenous re-hydration(a technique that delivers liquid directly to the vein) when medical-saline(a mixture of sodium chloride in water) was not available. It's been a means to combat poison, which coincides with Kalim's knowledge of poisons. However, taking too much coconut water has reportedly caused hyperkalemia (over-abundant potassium in the blood). This disease can lead to acute kidney failure, disorderliness of heartbeat (heart arrhythmia), loss of consciousness and in severe cases leads to death.
    • Even worse is that coconut water poisoning is a legit method that people have used to murder unwanted elderly or highly ill family members (one such process being thalaikoothal which mixes oil baths as well). Now remember that while their relationship has remained quite stable Jamil does still harbor resentment towards Kalim and the Asim family. One can only hope that either the peace continues or Jamil wouldn't resort to trying anything like that in the future.
      • Not just Jamil, but members of Kalim's own family.
  • While as of this writing they have been very amiable, a couple key moments between Yuu and Malleus can take a more worrying interpretation if one has knowledge of fairy lore. It is said that if a fairy knows one's name the fairy can gain control over them, the only way to break said control is learning the fairy's name. Malleus withheld his real name from Yuu when they gave him theirs, but Yuu does eventually find out who Malleus is in Chapter 5. However, another way that a fairy can gain control over someone is to have their target accept a gift from them, which Malleus does immediately after Yuu learns his name by declaring that fixing the VDC stage is his gift to the prefect. It doesn't help that accepting a gift can put an individual into the fairy's debt, and given how big that task was it would be assumed that Yuu's potential debt to Malleus, who is a crown prince mind you, is quite high (and, by the way, the terms of clearing a potential debt is always set by the fairy). Time will tell if Malleus really has any ulterior motives regarding Yuu or if everything above is coincidental and innocent, but at the very least it does question if any fairies of the Valley of Thorns or throughout Twisted Wonderland have employed these methods to ensnare unsuspecting humans as well as if these incidents contributed to the feud between humans and fairies.
  • The sheer number of Phantoms in the Styx containment units is tragic. Thousands, if not millions of mages fell victim to overblot and became monsters, their husks eternally trapped in a frozen prison. Every one of them was a capable and powerful mage who could have done great things for the world, who probably had loved ones, and who probably caused devastation before being contained by the Styx team. All because they experienced overpowering negative emotions, and their magic got the better of them.
  • At the end of Chapter 6, had Malleus not chosen to cure Vil's Rapid Aging there's a possibility that, along with losing his career or at least a good portion of it, Vil could have had his life severely dwindled down to at best a decade more or so (not to mention Vil's father would have most likely outlived him). And even if Vil might be able to get in touch with doctors or use magic to keep himself up his body still took a massive hit given he barely had enough strength to walk by himself.
  • From "Glorious Masquerade": Before the crimson flowers were destroyed they spread throughout the City of Flowers and engulfed quite a few magicians. It's possible that someone might not have been able to escape in time and permanently lost their magic.
