It is a wonder how Lorraine, a poverty-stricken and mentally unfit single parent didn't immediately put up Callum for adoption (or at the very least let Norma Creed keep him), fully knowing that he would be a heavy strain on her. It makes sense when you remember that Callum is or at least was the last living reminder of her lover Don, the only person who made her feel happy for once in her life. She would do anything to be with him.
