• Why is the gendarme starving? A policeman's salary isn't that bad and it's not like he has a family to support or anything. Why can he only afford one tiny fish?
  • This troper got the impression that he was out of work, and that he didn't own much clothing aside from the uniform and suit. Of course, that just brings up the question of whether he should be getting a pension.
