Fridge Logic

  • In the very first case, Hajime should have been tipped off that someone brought a functional crossbow, even almost accidentally shot at someone, to the theater when Phantom Of The Opera needed no such thing. However, Hajime did admit that he didn't read the entire script the first time, he should have noticed that someone sneaked in a weapon.
    • It's already been established earlier that the president of theatre club was the one bringing it. The reason, however, is unknown. This doesn't change the fact that it seemed unnecessary to the drama's plot.
  • Itsuki is said to be hydrophobic after Oriental Cruise accident 3 years prior to Hiren Lake Murder Case. However, he can be seen going on ships in some cases, notably Amakusa Treasure Murder Case and Hitogata Island Murder Case. The latter is rather jarring because the case happened after Itsuki made a Call-Back about him being afraid of water.
  • From Amakusa Treasure Legend Murder Case: Kindaichi was attacked by the weekly "Scooby-Doo" Hoax but survive. From there, readers can see that the one who attacked Kindaichi had normal build. Later, Kindaichi revealed that the killer was Wada Morio, a person who was overweight at best. Overlooked character design by the illustrator?
    • This is a very common and widely accepted illustrative portrayal in detective manga, for the sake of keeping the identity of the killer hidden. This is done similarly in the Detective Conan series, where the unidentifiable shadowy figure of the week (often the killer) has a very lean body build and the final revealed culprit having a completely different one. The main point here is that you are supposed to use other clues in the story to deduce the identity of the killer, and not just by using that single illustrated panel for your logic deductions.
  • Too funny to be considered Fridge Horror: That marijuana smoke from the huge farm fire in Mummy's Curse has to go somewhere.
  • Miyuki, often discussed as Fudo High's honor student, doesn't think or consider one bit that the name Kallima inachus given by one of the suspects in The Undying Buttefly case is a binomial name.

Fridge Horror

  • While the individual mysteries stand on their own quite well, if you think a little too hard about the implications of the series as a whole, you might realize just how many grisly murder scenes Hajime and his pals have personally witnessed and investigated. They aren't just detectives doing a job— they're kids trying to go about their lives. They never seem to get to have a field trip, a vacation or even a stint at cram school that doesn't lead to them stumbling into some kind of gory spectacle. On many occasions, they themselves have been the target of attempted murder, and their own classmates have died or been revealed as murderers. What's holding their psyches together at this point is really anyone's guess.
    • Kindaichi, for one, is tired of dealing with those kinds of cases as a 37-year-old adult and just wants to live a normal life as a Salary Man. Unfortunately for him, this kind of trouble just seems to be present wherever he goes, forcing him to act. Imagine how much Miscarriage of Justice might have taken place, had Kindaichi decided to simply turn a blind eye to the murders taking place due to sheer fatigue towards detective responsibilities, regardless of whether he and/or those around him are not among the intended targets.
