While it's never explicitly stated, the Hash Slinging Slasher's actions prior to his death take another layer of brilliance when you consider that all of those mistakes were likely because he was exhausted. Of course someone would make a terrible mistake like cutting off their own hand if they were working during a night shift they were forced into! All of this likely wouldn't have happened if the Bad Boss hadn't stuck him into a tiring 24/7 shift.
The fry cook who would become the Slasher being called "clumsy" could also be seen as a form of changing the narrative by the Bad Boss as well. After all, anyone would be clumsy if they were exhausted...or forced to work during a time they aren't supposed to. Said boss might have slandered him after his death in order to cover his own crimes of forced labor and undermining labor laws, which would have only furthered the resentment by the hostile spirit towards his former boss.
