Fridge Brilliance

  • Sarah's binding spell works the first time around. Nancy is only able to intimidate her with illusions and glamours - and she's not able to do any real damage with her magic.
  • Bonnie, Nancy and Rochelle were never Sarah's friends, they were only ever interested in what they could get from her. They weren't interested in her (openly hostile, actually) until Bonnie told them about her power and then they're all over her. After they've summoned Mannon they figure they've got what they wanted and once she starts getting difficult they turn on her without hesitation. Kind of ties into the idea that Bonnie was always a bitch, she only seemed nice due to her insecurities.
    • After Nancy is defeated, Bonnie and Rochelle come to "apologise" to Sarah (never actually say they're sorry, though) and casually ask if Sarah still has her powers. Clearly, they've made the connection that they gained their powers when Sarah joined them and lost them again after she left, and think that they can get them back by kissing up to her again. When she makes it clear she's not interested, they turn dismissive.
    • If you take the deleted scene as canon, Nancy clearly views herself as the saviour of the other girls ("I have saved you all from oblivion!") and thus feels entitled to treat them as she pleases. Sarah and Rochelle protesting against her is seen as a rejection of everything she's done for them.
  • When we last see Laura Lizzie, she's attempting to make good with Rochelle. On the surface of this, it would seem that it's out of fear of Rochelle's power. But Laura has no reason to associate Rochelle with her misfortune, and thus no reason to suck up to her. It seems possible that the apology was sincere. Perhaps becoming a social pariah herself made her realize how awful she had been to other people.
  • At the coven meeting, the wishes all the girls make:
    • In addition to the love spell on Chris, Sarah wishes to love herself more. She undergoes Character Development and ends the film happy to be alone, without any toxic friends or love interests.
    • Rochelle wishes "to not hate those who hate me", including Laura Lizzie. When Laura's hair falls out, Rochelle feels sympathy for her.
    • Bonnie notably doesn't wish for inner beauty; in both incantations, she declares she already has it in addition to wishing for outer beauty. She's already insisting she's beautiful on the inside, hinting that she's a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing.
    • Nancy wishing for "all the power of Manon" explains why she's the only one who gets such dark powers when invoking the spirit.
  • When Sarah's scars from her suicide attempt are first shown, Bonnie comments that she did it "the right way", (lengthwise down her arm). When Nancy attempts to stage Sarah's suicide at the climax, she cuts her across her wrists, which is much more easily survivable, as the first clue that Sarah will be able to turn the tide against her.
    • And like the above, this means Sarah's binding spell did prevent Nancy from doing lasting harm. This must also be why she fooled her with a glamour into thinking her parents were dead; she didn't have the power to do it for real.

Fridge Horror

  • As noted on the work's Nightmare Fuel page, the fact that magic not only exists in this world, but is something just about anyone can access. Who knows how many people have been using it for malicious purposes up until now, and likely still are? Nancy is probably the least to be concerned about...
    • Word of God says that Sarah is the only natural witch among the group, and that their powers just come from leeching off her magic. So presumably they didn't make anything happen beforehand...mind you, this was from an earlier draft, which doesn't necessarily apply to the final product...
      • I actually believe that there are some grounds for such a statement even in the final cut. As in, before the invocation of the spirit all the individual spells actually seem to be cast by Sarah...
  • $175,000 is not that much money. Certainly not enough to sustain that nice apartment or feed Nancy's mother's alcohol habit. It probably won't be long before she ends up back in the trailer park - this time without a husband to support her.
    • And considering Nancy's confined to a mental hospital by the end of the film, her mother is going to rack up quite a debt paying for her daughter's treatment.
  • Laura might be bald for the rest of her life as the result of Rochelle's spell.
    • According to Lirio, a spell has to run its course. That implies that Chris would eventually stop being infatuated with Sarah, so perhaps Laura's hair would grow back.
  • The doctors are amazed that Bonnie's scars vanish after she asked Manon to take them away. They are not aware of this and think that it is the successful result of the painful and experimental treatment they performed earlier in the film. The doctors will presumably use this treatment on other burn victims and be totally befuddled when it doesn't produce anywhere close to the results they believe it did for Bonnie.
    • They'll do more trials for other "hopeless" patients, and eventually infer that Bonnie's miraculous recovery was a fluke. Though judging by their expressions, they might have sensed that something was off about her.
