Fridge Brilliance

  • Ruriko’s line about how “Heroes wear red” is actually a reference to Japanese theater, where different colors are associated with different roles/concepts. For example, purple or shades of it is meant to represent supernatural elements. Red is usually associated with positive emotions and heroism. What is especially interesting about this though, is that Ichiro/Butterfly Aug/Kamen Rider 0 is colored blue. In other words, the opposite of red; and, wouldn’t you know it, blue is associated with villainous characters in the same way red is with heroes. Quite fitting for the main villain.
    • A great deal of Toku works use elements from kabuki theater, such as Super Sentai. Kamen Rider does, too, as does this film. Red clothing for the heroes, blue clothing for the main villain, the characters making fighting poses before fighting, etc.
    • On the subject of blue: Takeshi Hongo/Kamen Rider has some blue. Not the bright blue of Ichiro's Chou Aug suit, but his helmet is a very dark blue or green-blue. It's a reflection of Hongo's new nature as a mutant manufactured by SHOCKER, and his destructive power via the mask's survival-amp function. After the Final Battle, Hayato Ichimonji has it restored and given a new color scheme: bright green with red eye-lights, and no blue to be seen. It's a Heel–Face Turn illustrated with the same color logic from kabuki theater: Kamen Rider solidifying his position as a protector of humanity against the evil organization that sought to make him their soldier.
    • Color logic might also explain K's purple suit: a color produced by mixing red and blue. While he is still part of SHOCKER, K stands between good and evil (as we understand it), to observe both for the benefit of I.
  • While the mechanism isn't 100% clear, there's a reason Takeshi's scarf doesn't dissolve with Ruriko's body when she dies. It's not Ruriko's scarf, even though she had it previously; it's Takeshi's, the man who accepted the scarf from her. When he does die, the scarf dissolves with his body.
  • The Shin Kamen Rider X [Shin] Evangelion crossover promotional material features Asuka Langley Shikinami as Hachi Aug, and Mari Makinami Illustrious as Chou Aug/Kamen Rider No. 0. The parallels make sense: the former are both canon characters (Asuka Langley Soryu and Hiromi Nohara, respectively) reimagined for their Shin appearances; while the latter are Canon Foreigners who weren't in the original serieses.

Fridge Horror

  • How can Kumo Aug have a pair of arms in his abdomen and another pair behind his shoulder blades? Well, as an Augment, he now subsists on prana. Perhaps his Augmentation procedure involved removing organs he wouldn't need anymore, such as organs from his digestive system. And knowing how much Kumo Aug detests humans, he'd want to be as not human as he possibly could.
