The film Hedwig and the Angry Inch plays a prominent role in the show, with an episode revolving around Eric and Otis planning to go and to see it together, later leading to them falling out. At the dance several episodes later, Otis has the band play a song called "The Origin of Love" - it's never mentioned, but this is a song from Hedwig, in fact one of the most important songs in the film, making the gesture much more significant if the viewer is aware of this.
The fact that Otis turns out to be very good in bed is foreshadowed in the aftermath of his first time. Alcohol can affect a man's ability to get and maintain an erection, and generally impact negatively on a man's sexual performance (the term whiskey dick exists for a reason). In Otis' case, despite being so massively intoxicated he couldn't even remember the event the next day, he still managed to put in a "not great but not terrible" performance despite the twin handicaps of inexperience and extreme inebriation.
Someone sends a picture of Ruby's vulva to everyone, threatening to send another with her face in it unless she publicly apologizes for her behavior...which would make it pretty obvious whose vulva it was.
