Fridge Brilliance

  • The Old Testament may not have any names beginning with F, but "Frankincense" isn't from the Old Testament anyway. However, the only F names in the New Testament, the Roman names Felix and Festus, might have sounded horrible to a pioneer couple trying to give their boy a manly name. That could have been why they went with Frankincense which allowed the nickname Frank. Also, "on account of he smelled so sweet."
  • At the end of the show, all the girls claim that Millie's baby is actually theirs. Obviously this is an outrageous lie, but if it were true that would mean that the baby was very premature since the girls had only been kidnapped for six months or so. Even the menfolk have to know that it would be a really bad idea to kill the father of the child and take the mother and her weakened baby back to the town in their condition. The lie may have been what ultimately convinced the men to just let the girls marry the Pontipee brothers rather than causing a bloodbath.
  • A lot of Adam's behavior makes sense when you consider he lost his parents. His father "chopped a tree down on himself" sometime after Gideon was born, and their mother is nowhere to be seen. Judging by the state of the house, he's had to be the sole patriarch for years alone on the frontier while running a farm with six rowdy brothers. Small wonder he's stubborn and withholding.
    • This is reinforced by how quickly the boys change once Milly arrives. They know how to say Grace and be polite at the dinner table, they just haven't had anyone tell them to in a long time.
  • Similarly, this is what makes Adam suggest kidnapping the girls. Being the leader makes him more confident, but he's about as experienced as they are.
  • Casting Jeff Richards in the movie is often criticized because he couldn't dance well, but in terms of appearance and setting, he's probably the best cast of the brothers. As a former pro athlete, with his rugged and muscular build, he actually looks like a 19th century backwoodsman. Someone like that probably wouldn't have the build of a professional dancer.

Fridge Horror

  • As mentioned above, if any of the other girls had the baby, it would have been premature. Premature babies would be unlikely to survive on the frontier.
