Fridge Brilliance

  • It seems odd that something as technologically complex as a space elevator could be constructed with tier 1 components, but then you realize that you're only building the ground anchor, while the cable et. al. descends from orbit, which is similar to how the the HUB's freighter upgrade doesn't include the freighter itself, only its docking structure. Indeed, the space elevator's ground anchor could arguably be one of the least complex assets the Pioneer can field, being beaten only by other "simple" buildings like the storage containers, conveyor belts, and conveyor merger (discounting decorative assets like lights and signs).
  • It is not far-fetched or stupid to strike the Nobelisk Detonator's plunger with an explosive cartridge. This is because IRL explosives are designed to only explode under very specific physical conditions (which are created by the detonator), and to be completely safe and inert otherwise. As a real life example, C4 will not explode if shot, set on fire or blasted with microwaves; it can only explode when subjected to a strong enough shockwave by another explosion, which is created by the cartridge's fuse. Since nobelisk does not seem to arm until dropped, that means it is completely feasible to strike the detonator's plunger with another charge of nobelisk.

Fridge Horror

  • Taking damage brings up a HUD warning that reads "damage to Ficsit property detected". Not to the pioneer. To Ficsit property. This can mean two things, neither of which is pleasant in any way: 1) the company cares less about their employees than the equipment they're using, or 2) the pioneer themselves is company property. Considering that you're the third pioneer to survive planetfall on Massage, and that even your relative small deployment zone is littered with crashed landing pods, it's probably Option 1, but even without playing as a potential MegaCorp slave, working for Ficsit suddenly feels a whole lot less appealing regardless of all their cool toys.
    • Heck, they may even be lying about the number of survivors, given that everyone in a four-player networked instance will be told that they're the third survivor. That makes things a lot worse because not only are you a slave to a MegaCorp, you're a slave to a very corrupt one.
    • Not much of a fridge, occasionally when you die the splash text by FICSIT outright says they own you. You can brush it off at a joke, but then when your thoughts wander back into that territory when you can’t sleep at three in the morning…
    • And now there's a message saying "Unauthorised hostility to Pioneer" when an enemy's near. Alright, it doesn't imply you're their property any more, but Ficsit authorises hostility towards its pioneers sometimes?
      • Disciplinary action might be considered hostility.

Fridge Logic

  • Observant players may note that sunrise appears on the western edge of the map. Assuming this was not simply a mistake by the developers, there are a couple of potential explanations for this.
    • Traditional compasses are oriented based on a planet's magnetic field, which is not strictly aligned with the ecliptic plane of the planet's orbit.note  It is possible that the 'north' pole is actually inverted, causing a flip in perspective between the planet and its primary, and would explain the discrepancy. This assumes that the HUD compass is magnetically oriented and not based on some other technology.
    • It is also possible that the HUD compass is oriented along some interstellar standard that is imposed regardless of a planet's relation to its primary, forcing the apparent reversal, but nothing about this is ever discussed in the game.
