  • Bill's insistence that stage magic isn't real in "Rupert and the Great Mephisto" and ruining the fun for his friends by pointing out how each illusion is done at first seems like the most arbitrary, illogical case of Scully Syndrome ever, given the magic and fantastical elements he encounters with Rupert on an almost daily basis. But wait! What exactly does he say when Rupert spots a poster for a magic show? "You don't believe any of that hocus pocus stuff, do you? It's all a complete fake." He never says, "There's no such thing as magic", just that he believes people who do tricks onstage obviously aren't the real deal... and it actually makes perfect sense that someone with ample experience with real magic would be bored to death by watching "fake" stage magic/illusions.
