Why does Red Hood wear a helmet when all of the other Robins, even post graduation, have either stuck to masks or cowls? Jason was beaten mercilessly with a crowbar, and he probably doesn't want to relive the trauma that comes with a cracked skull and being beaten black and blue.
You'd think that after his resurrection and being brought back into the fold of the Bat Family, he'd pick a new name that isn't tied to costumed supervillainy, right? After all, to the outside world, the Red Hood Gang is a bunch of organized criminals, while to the Bat Family the name Red Hood calls to mind a certain murderous clown. But when you take into account his previous moniker, Robin, it takes on a new meaning as a hood - a mask that birdkeepers put over dangerous birds of prey. Just like Dick and Tim before him, Jason has stepped out of his Robin persona into a new bird-themed one, and one that emphasizes his dangerous nature.
