    Fridge Brilliance
  • Aside from aesthetic reasons, Quake II takes place only shortly prior to Quake IV; however, practically everything has undergone a redesign (returning enemy types look different, architectural styles are dissimilar, etc). However, as shown by the Quake II: Lost Marine Game Mod for Doom³, in the chance of a Quake II remake with the IdTech4 engine, the game would look pretty much similar to Quake IV. Plus, Quake II was done by Id, while Quake IV was made by Raven.
    • If someone have doubts, the Quake II for Quake IV mod should be another good indication of how it would look.
  • In a meta sense, the game coming with 8 dedicated Deathmatch mapsnote  and 5 CTF ones... the same amount of multiplayer-only maps Quake II had at the 3.20 point releasenote .
  • Ever noticed the amount of Hornets present in the game regarding the last time? Three Hornetsnote  weren't able to stop a human, but posed a challenge. So they sent more this time. Especially considering that now it's the humans who are taking revenge by invading Stroggos en masse, and their interplanetary defenses were already annihilated by that point thanks to Bitterman's actions. The Stroggos in this game are more than willing to cross the Godzilla Threshold. Which also explains why Kane isn't fighting on his own, most of the time, as the TCM/EDF is also willing to go all-in to ensure the Strogg extinction.
  • Some sounds are recycled for use in multiple locations. For example, in the introduction movie, Rhino Squad's dropship is dropped from a ship to the sounds of a warning klaxon. Strangely, the same klaxon is also used in Strogg bases. It might seem like an oversight, but it's not too farfetched since the Strogg forcibly capture biological organisms as well as their technology (notice how the Tactical Strogg adopt the weapons used by the Space Marine Corps).
  • It makes sense why Kane didn't get a promotion from Corporal at the end despite his work in completely disrupting all of the Strogg's operations. He's already been set up with a new mission before he even has the opportunity to wind down, strongly implying the brass has kept him in a soldier's ranking so that he'll be ready to fight where he's needed most, rather than be stuck in command positions.

    Fridge Logic
  • Anderson's backstory says that he isn't afraid of using weapons against the enemy. Now, why don't he just shoot the Scientist?
  • Some of the Strogg modifications seem rather silly. For instance, the Tacticals appear to have mechanical arm parts embedded into their fore-arms in a weird hybrid system. Maybe it's skin grafted over machinery, which seems silly too. This would be vulnerable flesh in battle, so why not go all the way with fully mechanical arms?
