The scenario as it plays out in the film is probably the only way Eve could've survived her connection with Vandamm. If Vandamm's men succeeded in killing Roger, or if Roger had convinced Vandamm that he wasn't Kaplan, either way Vandamm (probably aided by Leonard) most likely puts two-and-two together when he realizes the government is still keeping tabs on him, and figures out that she's a mole. And of course if Roger hadn't warned Eve to not get on the plane, she'd end up floating somewhere in the Pacific.
