Years ago at Sesame Place there was a show which starred Max And Ruby. But the series has no relation to the actual park. However, when you remember that a spin-off to the show aired on Nick Jr. years ago along with "Sesame Unpaved". It makes alot of sense since spin-off to Sesame Street and Max And Ruby both aired on the same channel. Same goes for LazyTown which was shown at the park years before Max And Ruby arrived there.
A similar example is the time Max himself was a special guest at a show in Dutch Wonderland. While the park is mostly themed after old fairy tales. It sorta makes sense since Max And Ruby did their versions in the newer episodes such as "Ruby Riding Hood" and "Jack And The Beanstalk" it does fit there.
Where are Max and Ruby's parents? Is their absence the reason why they're looked after by their grandmother and why Ruby feels the need to act like an adult?
Word of God states that they do have parents but we don't see the parents because they believe that kids can resolve problems on their own. The parents were also finally seen for the first time in "Max's Preschool" and the episodes that follow.
