Shotgunned the entire series this week and have come to a realization.
All the controversial stuff. All the things American fans think are silly, corny, or otherwise don't fit.
When you come to that single realization, EVERYTHING WORKS.

And all of a sudden, /it works/.
- The lack of a recap movie (at least until FB 7). Considering it was implied that Do You Remember Love? was military propaganda, it makes perfect sense why Fire Bomber wouldn't have one!
- If using reaction weapons is such a big thing it needs Earth's authorization, then why does every ship have such a huge supply? One word: Zentraedi. Considering the numbers of a Zentraedi fleet, every encounter would be to be treated as crossing the Godzilla Threshold the moment singing them into acculturation fails, with that including using reaction weaponry freely. Same with the Inspection Army. Every other use, on the other hand, would require government authorization.
- If one doesn't know the context, what the Protodeviln did to the survivors of Megaroad-13 looks awfully like what Vrlitwhai's fleet was doing in the original series. Suddenly, Bodolza's decision to wipe out every form of life on Earth and Vrlitwhai's fleet makes sense: he mistook it for the initial stages of a Protodeviln infestation, and killing everything was the correct and reasoned course of action.
