Initially, Howard worriedly imagining Jamie will turn out like Myronjust because he didn't get a Turbo Man seems to be a bit convoluted. But then it occurs it's something else entirely. It's not about Jamie getting a Turbo Man to ensure he has a bright future. It's the principle of present. When Myron said "I'm just a loser with no future", he wasn't talking about the present tense. He was saying it in past tense. He was stating how he became a loser because he felt his father viewed him as a loser if he neglected to get the toy he wanted. Meanwhile, that other kid "became a billionaire" because his father loved and believed in him enough to get him the toy. In short, Myron is unwittingly teaching Howard how much kids depend on their parents to keep their promises.
Myron's son is going to be happy that he got a Turboman for Christmas...but he's going to be sad that his dad has been hauled off to jail and will probably stay there for many years.
