Fridge Brilliance

  • The Princess really steals the show from the two other prominent characters in the story, with the Knight never being heard or his face ever revealed, and the Duke simply not being shown at any point. Then you remember; in a stereotypical fairytale, the princess is often treated as an afterthought or a reward for the hero for overcoming his journey, and is often not given a real story arc of her own, rather merely acting as a sidepiece to the more complex hero and villain. In this game, not only does the Princess take center stage, but the Knight and Duke are treated as afterthoughts to her story!
  • The Mood Dissonance in the good ending, with the Princess's depressing and scary monologue being interrupted by the knight bursting in and the two of them magically being transported to the meadow they were in makes sense if you consider that the Knight's perspective of this entire ordeal has been a typical mobile game adventure, rather than the traumatizing and harrowing experience the Princess has been through. The Mood Whiplash from the two reuniting is the perspective of the story switching back to him! So the scene with the two of them twirling around each other in a forest is the Knight's perspective, having no idea of the horrors his Princess has been through.

Fridge Horror

  • As the game progresses, the Princess's appearance becomes more and more beaten and dirty, even sporting a black eye. She also extensively talks about the Duke's awfulness and the number of "gifts" strewn about the room. It's pretty clear that the Duke is abusing her physically.
    • Not to mention the fact that he's trying to marry her against his will, so sexual abuse definitely isn't off the table.
    • The Princess contemplates whether her own mother was put into a situation similar to hers, which means the Princess may possibly be a product of rape.
    • We don't have a lot of insight into the personality of the knight; from what we can see, he seems friendly enough and is starting his adventure with the purpose of rescuing the Princess. Still, his actual intentions are entirely unclear. Is he actually a good person and Knight Templar, or is he a Prince Charmless who is only trying to save the Princess because he sees her as a prize to be won and couldn't care less about her personhood? In this scenario, the "good" ending, the Princess may not be dead, but she is unknowingly trading one abusive man for another.
