Fridge Brilliance

  • At first, it might seem odd that the hogfish in the fourth game would refuse to eat the cake that Moray offered them, even outright pelting him with it, seeing as pigs in real life will eat pretty much any food scraps placed in their pens. However, the end of the game shows that the hogfish are sapient, and the cake in question was chocolate cake. Chocolate in real life is poisonous to pigs, and presumably hogfish, and the hogfish know that.

Fridge Horror

  • Why did the Squidfather take the chest containing the Kelp Seeds that were so vital to the community? One possible reason is that it was a power play. By hoarding the seeds, and being their only source, he could use them as a means of extortion by selling the seeds at inflated prices- since they're needed to survive, many citizens would have no choice but to pay up or find a way to pay. He could also have used the kelp seeds as a bargaining chip, offering extra kelp seeds or hefty discounts in exchange for favors, or just as a reward for anyone who pleases him, while withholding kelp seeds from anyone who gets on his bad side. Basically he was dangerously close to using an important food source to enslave everyone, probably including Freddi, Luther, and Grandma Grouper. And it might have worked, had his henchmen been more competent.
  • The first game had a Junkyard as a location, while that's fairly common in works set on land. It's kinda disturbing when you ask yourself why this society of sea creatures has such a large dump full of mostly human goods. Sure, the ocean is seen with the occasional litter, fishing gear, and sunken vessels scattered about but the junkyard has a massive mountain of trash and junked cars. Are the humans in this world just throwing their old cars and piles of trash into the ocean or was this dump once on land and a prior disaster caused the area to flood?
  • Continuing from the Fridge Brilliance example above, the hogfish were not just angry at Moray for giving them food that they didn't like. They were also angry at him for giving them food that could make them sick or even kill them. Calico was right to be worried.
