Fridge Brilliance

  • Fitzpatrick's admiration for (and desire to emulate) Alexander the Great is among the first things that are highlighted about his character and personality. Not only would this not be lost on the Timermen, who would have noticed it almost from the very beginning, but it gives them even more reason to cautiously observe him (and ultimately intervene):
    • On the one hand, if Fitzpatrick were to succeed and effectively unify the world under Yukon hegemony, not only would it set history back into motion. It would also put humanity into uncharted waters that neither the Timermen nor Fitzpatrick himself would really be prepared for, given how Alexander's own long-term plans remain open to speculation.
    • On the other hand, if Fitzpatrick's global campaign were to be cut short, due to either his death or internal dissent, the likelihood of a latter-day War of the Diadochi, as his generals (including Bruce) squabble over the Yukon Confederacy not only increases exponentially, but threatens to undo everything they achieved. This, coincidentally, is also why the Timermen also go out of their way to ensure said generals are kept in line once Fitzpatrick is dealt with.
