If Benny and Helen—and, presumably, others in "Splinter"—are Ridiculously Human Robots who are adults, and the RHRs are biologically indistinguishable from human beings, that means that the production of RHRs has been going on long enough for some of them to grow to adulthood.
In "15 Years," it is revealed (or confirmed, if you like) that at least some of the adult RHRs have been living among us for, you guessed it, fifteen years.
Which also means that Kindred isn't necessarily the inventor of the type, even if he and Emily did build Piper. Kindred may have stolen the technology from the real inventor, or this might be a case of Robot Rebellion. That, in turn, may explain why Benny was so interested in Kindred's company and operations.
