Fridge / Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler

• Fridge Logic: Mabuse fails the first time he tries to hypnotize Von Wenk. Why does he succeed the second time?
• "M'abuse" is French for "I hurt myself" (roughly). So it's been suggested that his name implies that his downfall is part of his nature-that what might be taken as Bond Villain Stupidity is his underlying (and perhaps unconscious) desire to get caught.
