- In Dear Enemy, there's a very rich man who wants to adopt Allegra is doing so as a way to cheer up his beloved Delicate and Sickly wife, who had been seriously close to the Despair Event Horizon after miscarrying two children in succession, and had just been released from a mental hospital. While the gentleman's intentions are good at heart at first sight and one can understand that he wants his wife to get better.... his bitchy and entitled attitude when Sallie tells him that Allegra has two older siblings and she refuses to separate them show him as someone who views children as some sort of pets, instead of their own persons: not only does he decide to adopt an orphan kid without taking in consideration if his lady is in enough of a mental/emotional condition to take care of a child, but he treats Allegra like a "prize" to be won from Sallie, and then blames Sallie for giving priority to her and her brothers. note Maybe Sallie was VERY right into not letting the rich man take Allegra away... Thankfully he has a change of heart after the fire that destroyed the orphanage, and he adopts the three siblings out of genuine concern for their welfare rather than wanting "playmates" or "pets" for his wife.
