• The army unit asks for Riley to come with them to Belize in central America to take out a demon den. Did the government of Belize invite them there?
  • Well for all we know they did. Presumably the demon-hunting group works the same way any other US government special forces unit does; either illegally and covertly, or legally but with Plausible Deniability for whatever government requested their aid.
• Possibly Fridge Brilliance and possibly Alternate Character Interpretation, but: was Xander's speech about how Riley is a 'once-in-a-lifetime guy' unconsciously motivated by his own unresolved wish that he (Xander) could be the kind of guy Buffy would go for? The way Riley had been treating Buffy over the course of the season borders on covert emotional abuse and outright cheating, and, while Xander has a history of electing himself commander of the group, he does normally prioritize Buffy's well-being over his own petty feelings.
