Fridge / Blood of Zeus

Fridge Brilliance

  • What gods make up the group that stays loyal to Zeus initially? Apollo, Hephaestus, and Hermes. All of them are Sons of Zeus, two of them being the result of an affair, and one of whom was personally spited by Hera. Makes sense they would be so supportive of him.
    • While they don't play much of a role in the story, Athena, Artemis, and Dionysius also remain loyal to Zeus. Athena is among Zeus' most loyal supporters and his favorite daughter, while Dionysius and Artemis are also children of Zeus.
  • Why did Ares side with Hera over Zeus? Besides losing faith in him for his hypocrisy, Ares is known in the myths for being something of a Momma's Boy, so loyalty for his mother surpassed that towards his father. Traditionally, Ares is said to have been despised by many gods, including Zeus.
  • Hades staying out of the conflict between Zeus and Hera and allowing his realm to be a haven for any gods who didn't want to take sides is interesting for two reasons: 1) it reflects how the Hades of myth was often a neutral party in most godly affairs. 2) in myth, Hades' uncle, the Titan Oceanus, did the same thing. He stayed neutral in the Titan War and opened his home to any who chose to remain unaligned as a place where they could be safe.
  • Why is Hera so pissed about Zeus' adultery? Anyone familiar with the myths knows that Hera is the Goddess of Marriage. With his many infidelities, Zeus is not only humiliating her, but he's also basically insulting everything she represents.
  • How come Hera has the Golden Fleece? She was the one who supported and guided Jason on his voyage to Colchis to retrieve it. Why wouldn't she have the magic item of her chosen mortal champion after he's passed away?
  • Hephaestus is seen having a mechanical owl as a pet. At first, it doesn't make that sense, until you learn that in the original myth him and Athena are close friends and one of his friend's symbols are owls.
  • At one point, Alexia and her group are confronted against a giant satyr, only for Heron appearing at the last minute to kill the beast. If you pay close attention, you'll notice that the satyr resembles the god Pan, who in Classical Mythology, was the only god who died. Counts as a Genius Bonus for archaeologists.
